I completely agree TC.

The old movies looked much more realistic than the new ones, which looked synthetic and had a feeling of weightlessness to them. The models in the original were real, and it felt like it. They felt heavy and looked dirty. The space battles in the prequels lacked focus and were just a jumble of ships thrown into the mix. The first was much better directed as it focused a lot on one on one engagements. There were big battle scenes as well in the originals, but for some reason even they had more focus and paid attention to individual fights at times. The original movies are so ahead of the new ones it's not even funny.

Oh yea, the lightsaber duels DID look like dance sessions, with the only intent being to look cool. They were way more than what was required to convey what was needed, and dragged on and on.

Yes, the atmosphere and the emotion of the original trilogy saber battles were a lot better. Graphically wise the new ones look a lot better, sorry but there is no denying that.

I believe that the first ten or so minutes of Revenge of the Sith blows the entire saga away aesthetically. Have to say though, the asteroid chase in Empire Strikes Back was far more effective than the one in Attack of the Clones.

The older ones were better obviously, but the effects/lightsaber fights are better in the newer ones (Atleast II and III).

I think the older movies swordfighting was simliar to broadsword fighting. Which is kind of dumb when you think about it because putting tons of force behind a swing of a lightsaber is kind of stupid. It will slice through anything anyway so why take the time to build up a powerful swing. The newer ones kind of reminded me of crazy fencing styles which makes more sense, you don't have to hit someone hard you just have to basically make contact with something. So you would benefit more from haste rather than raw power with light saber swordfighting. Plus when you add in the agility and stamina a jedi would have I would imagine their duels would look a little rediculous. The newer movies is what I thought light saber battles should look like, but I have to admit the storylines/acting was bad in episodes 1-3.

The lightsaber fights in the newer ones are so far ahead of the old ones that it shouldn't be brought up.

No, they lack emotion....they're just stupid hollywood BS.

Kidding me? The showdown between Obi-Wan, Quigon Jin (is that how you spell it?) and Darth Maul was epic. When Jin went down it was terrible, you could feel how much that upset Obi-Wan. I'm a fan of both Trilogies, I'd have to say there are weak points to the first 3 episodes but they do have some impressive battles.

Visually the new movies are far better. SW often felt cheap as hell (stormtroopers anyone? Made out of cheap plastic), the death star was made out of paper (or looked like it), the sword duels were beyond pathetic (say what you want about parrying and weight, they simply looked bad, and the time they were made is no excuse, movies made around the same time had much better sword fights), not to mention the scenography and costumes which reeked of amateur production in first triology. Plus Natalie Portman >>>>>>>>>> Carrie Fisher ;) So no, the new movies look far superior, doesn;t change they're pure trash compared to original as movies

depends what you saw first and when. some people like myself would have seen the newer ones during the period where special effects became really something and looking back, the others sucked. but if you saw the other films first before all of this new technology then you'll see it far better than the newer trilogy. well thats imo anyway.

You honsetly think THIS is better than THIS?

definatley, grievous fight didn't look real at all

I think that you're delusional. The first three films were without a doubt much better movies. But the lightsaber battles reminded me of the pretend sword fights that kids have when they're 7.

The anakin/kenobi fight in the 3rd film was awesome. The special effects and lightsaber combat was much better in the newer films.

I've never thought the new Star Wars was better than the original trilogy. I love the original trilogy, I had dreams about Star Wars when I was a kid, the Star Wars was so real. The new Star Wars is rubbish, the Yoda lightsaber fight is so lame, ugh.

Long live the original trilogy!!!

You have to give it to George Lucas... He made the Prequel Trilogy "look" better but they aren't better than the previous films. He should have had someone else direct the prequels and he just forcused on the art direction. I think the films would have been way better. Over the past 30 years he just lost his director ablities.

The puppets, special effects, and general atmosphere was WAAAAAY more enjoyable in the OT than the NT.

The old trilogy did not rely on dazzle. It felt more like an actual world, and less like a video game.

The old trilogy certainly has more character and I personally like it better, but I'm not going to take away from the fact that the new trilogy also looks great and is a monumental achievement in visual effects which is what you seem to be doing.

Umm, terrible example. THIS is better than anything in the new series.

Luke going Caveman style against Vader is easily one of the worst, most anti-climactic moments in sci-fi movie history. Not even the rest of the scene can save it. The Vader vs Kenobi fight in the original was way better, because at least with that fight, it had this atmosphere to it, and it still is IMHO one of the best lightsaber battles in the series.

The Old Trilogy looks WAY better! Episode 4's final deathstar battle was like 3D and you could tell who was who, there was an X-Wing, Y-Wing, and TieFighter.

The New Star Wars, you can't tell what's going on, there's too many random ships.

i wouldn't imagine an actual lightsaber would have weight to it... how much do photons weigh? in any case.. i guess it depends on what the jedi fighting style was actually supposed to be... was it supposed to be very deliberate in ones motions or a lot of "razzle dazzle" to confuse and distract your opponent before striking them.. it would seem the fist 3 set up the combat mechanics for lightsaber duels since the films came out first... and then the 2nd trilogy screwed the whole thing up by technically taking place prior but completely changing how people wield lightsabers..
