You need a base heater that warms the ground and walls down there, rather than the air. The hot air will just rise up the stairs, but if you heat up the floor and walls it should remain warm.

Sidenote. My place has a really crappy heater. The windows are all frozen over and it is about 10 degrees celcius inside.

It is a summer cottage that is rented out weekly in the summer. It has no insulation. It is about -12 outside.

Call your AC people or whatever.

Close half the vents upstairs, and any vents that aren't used.

Also try to keep a good air seal. Cover up the windows and gaps in the doors.

If that doesn't work, you'll probably have to buy a space heater.

Ok, I checked you're other post and that there is no door between the basement and the 1st floor.
To help this, take a blanket and use it to block the hot air from exiting the basement.

no u sickos im not talking about sex im talking about my house i cant get downstairs to get warm. It's a new condo like townhouse. the floors are wooden and upstairs is carpeted. I can't get downstaits as warm. We've tried blasting the heat but then upstairs felt like the surface of the sun where downstairs was like pluto. We then tried blasting the heat again, but with the upstairs vents closed and downstairs vents open. this still didnt work. it's been in the teens as of late usually downstairs heating has not been a problem. we have to leave the oven door open and heat downstairs that way. is there any other way??2apture-13ound
