who is repulsed by the Twilight series can I?

For those of you who don't know it is a romantic teen series about a perfect girl who falls in love with the perfect guy who is a *gasp soo creative* a VAMPIRE!!! Teenage angst and drama follows.

The whole series is obviously wish fullfilment for the author, and the thing is it's successful.! My dream is to be an author and to see such garbage stinking up the artform of writing really drives me nuts.

So who else hates Twilight?

Ohhh my god Twilight actually makes me want to kill myself. My sister convinced me to read the first one, and I was appalled. It's so annoying. Edward keeps telling Bella how she's so special and amazing and all she is is this whiny little brat who complains about everything. It's a cheap story; everything happens in the last like 20 pages and its just weak. It's a sad excuse for a series and it disgusts me how all those 13 and 14 year old girls are in love with it.socked_feet

I heard about this series but didn't know what it was about exactly. Thank you for making this thread and clearing that up, now I don't have to bother looking for it at the bookstore and can skip past it. elblanquito_81

Twilight isn't targeted entirely at girls, it's targeted at young adults. It just so happens girls are into that kind of stuff more than guys are.

Kind of how The Dark Knight is targeted towards everyone, but more guys will probably be interested in it than girls.

No but being forced to hear about it everyehere I go becomes really old real fast. Have you been stuck in a van for 30 minuteds as two girls argue about "Who's better, Edward Cullen or Jacob Black"?

If so, *sigh*, more crap. More propagation of bullcrap to raise the standards of females to an even higher plateau of unachievablity. Which is just what society needs, women with even pickier standards.

I don't have a problem with the escapism in books or movies. Thats great, imagination is something most people lack; more imagination can't hurt anyone. I always get a bit tired of highly romanticised and idealised relationships in movies or books. God only knows how many teenagers are out of touch with what they will really get when they have a relationship.

Never read it, never plan to. Or see the movie.

I've been told that I wouldn't like it. As such, I will refrain from passing judgement on it.
