[QUOTE="rawsavon"][QUOTE="Setsa"]Congrats, but I personally dislike VWs.peanutbudduhYeah...same here...worked in a shop for 6 years...that have tons of problems...maybe more than any other vehicles we saw Maybe VWs, but I never hear anyone have problems with GTIs. We did not see too many GTI's (only 1 I remember)...so I don't know...mostly jetta's and bugs -I just know I will NEVER buy a VW...the ones we saw had soooo many issues

Sounds right? :) I've had to replace a fuel pump hose, two coil packs, three spark plugs (outside of regular maintenance, they were causing the engine to misfire violently), a brake-recognition chip (wouldn't let me take the car out of park since it wouldn't sense that the brake was depressed, that was fun) and plenty more that I'm probably forgetting.
My next car will probably be another VW though. 2012 Golf R hopefully. :)

It's an entirely different car. The frame is the same, but the body panels, the engine, the transmission, the suspension, the interior, and the styling are all different. They are considered two completely different cars.

congrats. hurray rich parents!bebop013He said it's a new car, not his first car. And it's not even that pricey. It's like $28,000. Good deal for a great car.

his point is you're wrong. plain and simple. and oh yeah, there was a Golf GTI in the states, up till about 7-8 years ago, that's when the names got seperated over here.

It's in the US. In the US, it's called a GTI. I really don't understand why you aren't getting this. All the GTI is a more expensive Golf.As for the TC, go to an APR or Revo dealer and get a Stage 1 upgrade. Only alters the ECU, so you can get a respectable 250-hp and a similar torque value out of it. 200-hp is not enough for that (or any) car.
Dark__Link
Uh how is that so? Cars can do fine with 70bhp.. You don't need a lot of power unless you take your car on track days.

I really don't know why it's called that in the USA, why would they remove the golf part? I would imagine it was to expand the market for it. They wanted to market it as a performance car, and maybe Americans who were looking for a performance car didn't regard the VW Golf as sporty. So by extension, the "Golf GTI" was just as boring. Drop the "Golf" and it becomes a new car that looks better to the performance market.his point is you're wrong. plain and simple. and oh yeah, there was a Golf GTI in the states, up till about 7-8 years ago, that's when the names got seperated over here.

true, but i find cars with 60-70hp very poor on the motorway, but nippy in the town.[QUOTE="Dark__Link"]

Well power isn't wholly indicative of performance... torque is far more important. If that 70-hp engine could develop something like 200-ft-lb of torque... then it wouldn't be so bad. But you aren't getting anywhere if both values are both around 70. I dunno about you, but driving is fun for me. I don't just drive to get from point A to point B.[QUOTE="CBR600-RR"][QUOTE="Dark__Link"]

My mum owns a saab 9-5 with 250bhp, and 258ib of torque, and it's well known that a 9-5 can go faster from 40-70 in 2nd gear than a porsche 911 turbo (420bhp), so yeh torque is a major factor.[QUOTE="CBR600-RR"][QUOTE="Dark__Link"]

I wouldn't know if driving is fun because I don't drive, I ride a motorcycle. 8) but my friend who recently started driving said he's got a bit bored of it and wants to go back to riding a motorcycle, so I dunno.. I'll pass my test just incase I need a car. :P
Damn that is a sexy car. Looks like a hell of a lot of fun to drive. It would be magic with a stick shift.

Kinda figured, given your name. :P You're definitely spoiled when it comes to acceleration. A 70-hp engine in a car won't get you anywhere, but the same thing in a bike is gonna rocket you to 60 and beyond faster than the majority of cars could.
Dark__Link
Haha yeah, well I recently passed the final test for motorcycles, so I can get any bike I want now and get something ridiculous with more than 100bhp.
Sticking to my 125cc, 13bhp bike for now, it get's me to 80mph so I'm happy. :P
