"Flatbush" is just... is that a real name? It sounds like something you'd call a hooker or, I dunno', a woman at least.

where do you live?

Flatbush originated from the 1700's when the land was a prarie and many laid out and pressed bushes. Now it's a crime infested cess pool.

If there was seven of them I don't think you could have defended yourself. Unless you had a gun, or a really big knife and you cut all of them before they could do anything.

That is true that is pretty much the only alternative that has a potential favorable outcome, but yeah there is risk there too.

You guys really think that there were seven guys, I automatically reduce that number to two or three whenever someone tells me these sad tales. If seven random looking guys walked up towards me, I'd spot them from a mile away and avoid them at any costs...I'm pretty sure if there were really seven guys you'd have been a little more suspicious. Plus what the hell are seven guys gonna do with a bookbag and 50 bucks?

Well, he's in the position to know, and I'm not. So I'll just take his word for it.
And $50 is a decent amount of money.. Most likely only one of the guys is going to keep it.
Book bags get stolen quite often. The textbooks they carry aren't exactly cheap, you know.
I was waiting for the bus once right after I came out of c|ass It was like at 10pm and there were 3 dudes next to me and a guy standing on the curve; I was leaning on a fence. Suddenly, in the span of about a second, the other dude is stripped of his book bag and an ipod he had in his pocket. The 3 dudes triple-teamed the poor guy of all his stuff and just ran away.
It's better for them to be in groups. It's more intimidating that way. What's the guy going to do? Chase after them?
They could later sell the ipod and the astronomy book was worth around $90 at the college's store.

I'm suspicious of anything but subtract 2 or 3 and there's not much difference. Also I don't recall criminals being the most logical of folks. Accurately evaluating the benefit / reward of their actions is rarely their strong suit.

Here there was a news story about a cop driving in his neighborhood when he came across some dudes just standing in the street blocking the street. Cop (nobody knew he was a cop he wasn't on duty and just coming home from a visit to the store) stuck his head out of the window and asked the guys to move. They just turned around and started shoot at the cop in the car. Not a smart move.

Yeah sadly stories like these are the norm, especially in bigger cities like Brooklyn, the police probably get hundreds of these reports in a day...In each district alone.

They do care.. they track all of this stuff and use this information to decide which areas to focus on.
And they might be career thiefs.. they might do this often and adding yet another charge helps keep them in prison longer.

[QUOTE="duxup"][QUOTE="Jandurin"] You think the police can do something? They won't even care. It's like 100 dollars worth of stuff.Jandurin
It is unlikely they'll do anything for him but police activity is often determined by crime reports and ect.

I can see that. Then again, it's NY. I'm sure they get petty theft complaints a LOT. Your argument is sort of like the "every vote counts" argument.

Crime rates also help them decide if they're spending too much money on the police force.. not reporting it could have a direct effect on the amount of police officers that get hired.
And once report is not going to do much.. but that mentality of "they don't care" is prevalent and needs to go away for reasons stated..

Except some votes don't count, but when analyzing crime patterns they do all count.

That's why I said "sort of" :x Fine fine. Still, talking to the cops takes time, and then if it actually pans out, you get subpoenaed and stuff.
