I can't even imagine having to pay for stitches... glad I live in Canada. Even open heart surgery is free here.

SSo yea, reaching into my cupboard, i got a glass, accidentally slipped from my hand, and yet again accidentally grabbed for it cutting a deep and nasty sliver right below the first opposable joint on my left hand's ring finger. It bled a lot, but wasn't gushing and stopped after a while so i didn' hit a vein of any sort. The thing is, my family doesn't have any insurance and we're basically too poor to afford anystitches at the moment, could it just heal on its own through bandages and the such?

1) You did get all of the glass out, right?

2) You're typing with your fingers, so I'm assuming that the actual GLASS didn't do much damage. Most you have to worry about is any kind of bacterial infection. That is, of course, assuming that you did get all of the glass out.

3) Sounds like no big deal to me. Just make sure you clean it out thoroughly with either hydrogen peroxide or rubbing alcohol, and see a doctor if your symptoms persist. No need to see a doctor right now, they aren't going to do ****. They'll likely clean it, prescribe you some antibiotics that you probably won't need, and then youve just wasted way too much money visiting a doctor. Just wait. If things start to get worse, THEN see a doctor.

4) I once cut my hand on a car part. Scared the hell out of me. firstly it bled a lot. Then when I went to clean the wound, I saw that I cut right down to the vein. I could lift up the flap of skin and see my exposed vein with all the fibrous tissue connected. At first that was kind of scary too. But once I realized that i didn't cut THROUGH that large vein, it was actually sort of cool. The bleeding stopped before too long. Then I could simply walk around, finding random people, then lifting my hanging flap of skin and saying "hey, take a look at THIS."

It's just sort of cool, being able to see inside oneself.

Anyway, I recommend waiting for at least 2-3 days. You can see a doctor now, but they probably aren't going to do much for you either. They'll just charge you a **** ton of money, release you without doing much of anything, and then tell you to come back if you're still having problems.

So skip that step. Don't see a doctor now, that's a waste of money. Instead, just treat it yourself and keep an eye on it. If problems persist, THEN go see your doctor. Otherwise, that **** will heal up nicely with some good old fashioned home first aid.

Also, for minor cuts, superglue works.

Yes, I know that it sounds crazy to superglue yourself shut after getting cut. But for shallow and superficial cuts, it DOES work. Seriously.

Granted, you'll probably do an ugly hack job on it that leaves a noticeable scar, but who really ever gave a **** about a little scar on someone's finger?

The dude cut his FINGER. And the wound apparently stopped bleeding and he can still use his fingers just fine. There's really not even a need for superglue at this point, but that's still preferably to wasting tons of money to get stitches.

The ONLY real concern here is any subsequent infections. And by this point, he should have already thoroughly cleaned the wound. If he notices any adverse physical effects in the next few days, only THEN should he see a doctor, in order to get treated for any infections.
