I am completely stunned. The amount of friends I have with beer or alcohol in their facebook pics, especially for their 18th birthdays and high school graduation parties is astounding. Do the cops not clamp down on private consumption or such? th3warr1orThe law doesn't matter. People want to drink, they're going to drink. There is no reason, no sense of morality when it comes to the law. As long as something feels good, people going to do it. And this is why humans are not so clever, not so smart.
Where I love you can legally drink Beer when you're 18 but you need to be 21 to drink liquor.TreflisAnd where is that?
[QUOTE="th3warr1or"]Oh and I see people in my facebook who I *know* are not even 20 yet, ordering cocktails from restaurants.. Snipes_2Hmm...Don't know about that. I don't think they I.D. you or anything in restaurants. They ID people in restaurants. It's harder to get a drink in a restaurant than it is to get into a bar when you are underage.

Oh, I've never seen anyone get ID before. Probably because no one I go to restaurants with is under 21 (Family and sutff)

lol, I was at a restaurant where they gave us complimentary shots, I was 18. They gave the drinks to my parents and my grandmother. Even my sister who is also 18 (twins), but they carded me and my 23 year-old brother.

i think it's ok to drink when you're in your own home...though i'm not certain..

It isn't. Not anywhere in the US that I'm aware. To the OP, the reason why you see so many pictures like that is because it's one thing to have a law, and quite another to enforce that law. Even when it can be enforce you usually don't get into to much trouble for underage drinking. It's the people who provide the stuff to the underagers who can get into the real trouble. And any bar or restaraunt who serves someone underage is just asking to have their license revoked. That's just flat out stupid. Hell, I'm almost 33 and I still get carded. Personally speaking though I think our drinking laws are backwards. The way I see it, if you're old enough to go to war then you're old enough to have a beer.

I don't think they I.D. you or anything in restaurants. In order for someone to serve alcohol, they have to by law, ID anyone who appears under the age of 25. At least that's how it is in Canada.
I was standing in line at a convenience store one day and the guy in front of me was buying beer and cigarettes. This man's hair was greying and you could see the lines on his face, and still the cashier asked for his ID. The man, surprised, said "it's pretty obvious I'm well old enough to drink". To which the cashier responded "I'm not carding you for the beer, I'm carding you for the cigarettes". Both me and the man were pretty stunned at that.
*In the US you have to be 21 to drink, but only 18 to smoke. So it stands to reason that if you're sure the person is old enough to buy the beer then there is no reason to card them for cigarettes.
Everyone has to be carded for the cigarettes in the U.S. Alcohol, they don't have to if they appear over 30. The drinking age is enforced only at places where you can purchase. Everywhere else, the cops don't care.I was standing in line at a convenience store one day and the guy in front of me was buying beer and cigarettes. The legal age around here(Portugal)is 16,both to drink and smoke.Arach666Smoking has been 18 for a while now...
I live in Spain and the official drinking age is 18 but its pretty much completely ignored. You are rarely ID'd when buying alcohol and drinking in public is a common thing for people under 18. Its also pretty rare to go to bars and get ID'd but it occasionally happens. xTheExploited
But that changes from comunidad autonoma a comunidad autonoma. Like in Galicia your allowed to buy anything under 20% alcohol when you are 16. But honestly in galicia no one cares enough to I.D you anywhere.
Y Que Viva España!
I live in the country that invented beer, so here,k as long as you can reach above the counter, you'll get served. Rare is the bartender that'll refuse a -16 a drink.DaavpukeWhat country would that be?

I know people (teens) that have been intoxicated at public gatherings and the police didn't do anything simply because it is a social thing amongst society.
I live in the US and I actually find it really funny that the drinking age is 21.. Its one of the highest (if not the highest) drinking age in the world, and with all the other crap we are allowed to do I dont understand it. I mean youd think with our over indulgent do whatever you want mentallity we would have the youngest drinking age
1) You actually have 'friends' on facebook that photograph themselves in the middle of ordering a cocktail from waitstaff? Why would anyone want a picture of that? FragStains
because they think they are cool for dirinking and want to show it off.
Yes, and you can't buy alchahol at 18 either... Obviously...IF you get caught drunk in Public they'll nab you, and you can't go to bars. Otherwise if it's in your own home etc...I don't think they will.

Where I come from it's 19, and in the the two provinces on either side of me, it's 18. I've always known America's is 21, and I've always thought it was too steep.

out of curiosity whats the age you can join the military in america? if its 18 its very sad that you can have the sort of responibility where you may have to take other people's lives but you arnt deemed responsible enough to drinkgizmo_dave100It is 18, and agreed.

In Canada you are allowed to enlist when you are 18, and vote, and are considered a legal adult, but if you go to war for 7 months, get shot at, and see your friends die, and go through all that trauma, but having a few beers in a bar is too much. Kind of ass backwards to me.
