  1. Cats don't connect physical puishment with correction. The connect it with you being an ass and will therefore resent you.
  2. She's a baby, she'll have a lot of energy for running, jumping, clawing, biting, etc for anywhere from 8-16 more months.
  3. Again, she's a baby, and like a human baby, she's learning what she should and shouldn't do. Treat her accordingly.
  4. Cats are part of your family and expect to be treated accordingly. Do so or face the consequences.
  5. As others have said, she'll calm down as she gets older but she may never be a super friendly lapcat. She may not have as many domesticated generations in her bloodline or something.
  6. If you want a serious lapcat, get a Ragdoll. If the name of the breed doesn't spell it out for you, they are loving and snuggly almost to the point of annoyance. I know, having owned one for the last 5 years.
  7. Remember, positive reinforcement. Treats and pets, and if you need to say no, use a squirt bottle.
  8. Have fun and play with her. Make sure she knows you love her as cats are significantly more intelligent than some give them credit for.

ok you guys have been saying not to try and discipline it, so ive been trying. when it comes to bite or scratch i just let it but say NO. she stops sometimes but sometimes she keeps going. should i just spray her if she does? ive been spraying her when she goes into the kitchen and stuff so she knows not to go in there. and some of u guys r talking like i beat my cat or something. i only grab it by the scruff of the neck when it's really going crazy and wont stop. other than that i play with it all the time trust me, i just got it and i play with it as much as possible, its just hard because she always wants to bite and scratch when i do. is there any way that i can atleast make it chill beside me or something?

also, i didnt get a dog because it's too much responsibility. doesnt mean i dont want my cat wtf. i just want to know if theres anything i should be doing while shes still young so she doesnt continue this violent behaviour.

Buy the cat some scratching posts. Not sure if that was mentioned before in this thread. It won't stop her completely but it will give her something to take out some of that energy on. As alot of people said shes a kitten and will calm down alot as she grows.

what i dont get is ppl keep telling me to play with it and spend time with it and all that. ive been screwing around with the cat like all day like tossing it the ball and stuff. trying to pet and play with it as much asl possible. but how do i play with it if it always wants to bite or scratch me whenever i get near it to pet or whatever?

I have 2 words for you: Spray bottle. It's harmless and it keeps them from doing whatever they're doing. (For a bit anyway.)

Kittens are very active when they're young. Wait until they get a bit older and you'll watch them morph into Garfield. I don't know how I feel about de-clawing cats but it does save your furniture. Get a scratching post if you feel it's inhumane.

Also, spay or neuter your pets.

hey i just got a cat. its 4 months old and its really cute and stuff. i was wondering how if i can train it to be one of those cats that you can just chill with like sit on your lap or beside you. the cat is great and all but its like semi-pshychotic (however u spell that). it always tries to bite and scratch me and ppl in my family. like we'll be chilling in the living room and it would jump on the couch from behind and try to bite u or scratch u. i can pet it sometimes but it doesnt usually last long cuz she gets pissed or something. ive been trying to discipline it, like whenever it would bite or scratch or do something wrong i would grab it on the back of the neck (the area where the mother would grab it) and force it down to the ground gently and say NO kinda loud but not yelling. or sometimes i would just shove it away when it tries to scratch or bite. i also tried using the spray method where u just spray some water at it and it will go away. i think its starting to learn a bit but shes still pretty crazy. and when i spray it she will go away. but i want to be able to interact with the cat at the same time u know like pet it and just hang out with it cuz it doesnt really come to me all that much unless it wants to bite or scratch me. and usually it just runs around and does its own thing. i want the cat to get used to the house u know so i let it out. sometimes i have to lock it in my room cuz it gets a lil too crazy and my family cant really relax in the house without worrying about what the cat is going to do. i know that they are slow learners and it will take a while but i really want my cat to like me and chill beside me and on my lap without worrying about it having my foot for lunch. because regardless of its crazyness i still care about her and like her and probably will grow to lover her in time. if you guys have cats or even not i would appreciate it if u could give me some suggestions to help me out. thanks.

*sigh*

So basically, you're asking how to make your cat seem more like a dog?

This is why I have a general distaste for a hell of a lot of people who own pets. It's not a dog, it's a ****ing cat.

well i was just asking for some advice man, i never had a pet before. and like i said in many other posts, i heard if you don't try and stop them from biting and scratching from an early age they grow up to be violent. and im not asking to like completely train it, just some suggestions maybe if i should be doing something at this point or not, cuz its kinda hard to play with your cat and give it attention when it tries to bite or scratch you almost everytime u get near it. i dont know wth is ur problem and why u have to be a dick about it, if u dont have anything worth while to say then why say anything? u got nothing better to do than talk trash to ppl for no reason? i guarantee if you talked to me face to face you wouldnt be so quick to be a douche, and thats not a threat. i just dont get why so many ppl on OT always r so quick to get at someone when they didnt say or do anything wrong.

thanks for the suggestion. ive been using the spray bottle and it does work she goes away, even if its only for a little while. im just wondering if i should keep doing this cuz i want to be able to play with the cat and interact with her too u know, and the spray bottle kinda makes her avoid me for a while. the only time she comes to me willingly is when she is hungry or when she comes to bite my foot off.

Oh, I don't mind overall, but I'm having one of those "I really can't be stuffed" days.

So when I see this average wall of text, I'm too lazy to read. But I eventually forced myself. :P
