Am I the only one looking forward to the reboot? It seems wherever I go I can't find anyone who's even remotely looking forward to this... Well I only just started reading at Blackest Night, so I might not understand how the diehard fans feel, but still... I enjoyed how the comics were going so far, but I really like the new designs, characters and team-ups. I'm sorry if I'm going overboard by saying this, but I really think that Bruce Wayne is the only one who can be Batman... Grayson just doesn't cut it. And while Barbara was great as Oracle, it's refreshing and kinda encouraging to see her back on her feet. I'm loving the de-Americanised costume design of Wonder Woman - Why should a proud Amazon have to bow down to Americans and wear their colours? Red, silverand black make a lot more sense, since ancient Greek armour tended to be Red-black-bronze themed. The Super-family costume redesigns are pretty awesome, in my opinion - Kryptonian armour is so much more practical thanhome-sewn spandex, though Superboy's Teen Titans costume seems a little too hip-hop.The concept of having a 'supernatural' branch of the Justice League (with John Constantine!) is honestly very cool. I really like the new psychotic redesign of Harley Quinn. To be honest, the only thing I'm a little disappointed about is the lack of Power Girl... but that's just me.

Meh, reboot and retcons are the reason I prefer manga over american comics.

Sometimes, there's just no consistency.

Personally I think it is a good idea because how convoluted the whole universe had gotten, and if you hadn't read comic books before really and you wanted to because you saw a new DC movie or something it is practically impossible because of how far you'd have to go back and how many other comics and research you'd have to do to understand the story

I haven't read any of them yet but I am sure they will be handled pretty well...

I just really REALLY hope they don't try to tie the Reboot universe and the Old universe together or it will just be another Crisis on Infinite Earths situation, and just make everything ever MORE insanely complicated and ridiculous than it was before

yeah but he really has a point. Mangas tend to have more even and complete story lines, or atleast they don't span across several different comics and unvirses and so on and issues that are nearly impossible to find. Like if you want to read Bleach it is easy.. Just buy the books, they are all ordered and released properly and that is it.

But if you wanted to read, idk.. Batman.. jesus idk where you would even start (prior to this reboot which I hope is a legitamit actual 100% no nonsense reboot) It isn't as simple as it sounds....And DC has pretty good with continuity compared to Marvel is a million times worse...

Great point there! I totally agree with you on that. With manga, everything's very well-organized; each series is its own story, with each sub-story divided nicely into arcs that are generally very easy to follow. There's no "over-arching universe" to speak of, with each artist/writer designing his own world to his own liking. Not to mention Manga is way cheaper :P For the price of a 20-page comic book, you can get a 500-page magazine with up to 25 different Mangas at a go (e.g. Shonen Magazine; Shonen Jump, etc.)

What manga had a reboot? Retcon probably. Anyway, reboot/retcons in manga are pretty rare either way.

This isn't a reboot but a relaunch, characters like Batman are remaining basically the same but characters like Superman are getting some kind of reboot. It differs for a lot of characters, I honestly don't mind as long as the quality is there.

I've read a lot of manga and I don't recall any main series having a 'reboot'. Even retcons are relatively minor and are usually fixed in the magazine -> tankoubon transition. There are some mangas that get spin-offs with storylines that might clash with the main storyline, but that's usually pretty common with spinoffs.

Mangas also end, well, most of them anyways. There are still some ridiculously long running mangas but those are extremely rare. Even Naruto, which seems to have been running forever, is coming to an end soon.

this reboots are more of the same, telling the same things but in a different way, is like the problem i have with todays movies, they are just copying comics and tv shows from the 80s and 90s, nothing original, they arent even trying to do anything new, look at superhero movies, they are doing every single superhero out there and when there are 2 or 3 movies of it, they just reboot.

I'm pretty excited for it, there're gonna be a ton of great comics!

It's not necessarily a reboot, but a relaunch. A lot of things are still canon, they just retconned stories that didn't make sense or were completely terrible, dissolved a couple marriages, and made some characters younger by a few years. And only some origins are being changed, like Clark's first becoming Superman and the uniting of the Justice League.

Remember this, comics has been around for DECADES, theres bound for reboot/relaunch etc etc. As mainstream mangas goes for about 10+ years, like Naruto and One Piece, and not all mangas reach that state.

Me too. And lots of others.

Other than that, I'm neutral on the reboot. Companies do what they gotta do. I'm getting:

Wonder Woman
Batman
Swamp Thing
Batgirl
Action Comics
Nightwing
Deathstroke
Aquaman
Catwoman
Batwing
Animal Man
Batwoman
Demon Knights
Static Shock
Mister Terrific
Blue Beetle
Grifter
Justice League Dark
Men of War
Blackhawks
I, Vampire
Voodoo

The difference between manga and American comics is that American comics have to last for decades to sell a character, while manga generally has an end game. Reboots/relaunches are important to American comics to keep them relevant to today's readers. Instead of the Vietnam War, Tony Stark was now tied up with Middle Eastern terrorists, for example. Retcons are also very common because of this. When a comic goes on for years and years, it's more likely for something to be retconned either to tell a more interesting story or simply by mistake. (Writer's can't be expected to have every panel of every issue their character's appeared in memorized, and some things will be missed.)

However, for those wondering where to even begin when trying to read American comics, I suggest the trade paper backs, or collected volumes. Lots of good stories have been collected into larger books. And if you want to just jump right into the main continuity, then just pick up an issue of whatever strikes your fancy. I used to be completely uninterested in Wonder Woman until a cover of one issue caught my eye. So I picked it up and have been following her since.

More on to the topic, I really don't mind the reboot, and am actually really excited for Action Comics specifically. I've actually got like, 10 comics I plan to follow with the new relaunch, though chances are a few will be dropped down the line.

Calm down there, Hipster Joey. Obviously I was using colloquialisms considering Marvel and DC practially run the American comic industry. I'm well aware of the various imprints and non-marvel/dc brands out there.

I just got into dc comics (i read batman hush, 52, infinite crisis, crisis on infinite earths, villains united and salvation run) and i am sorta confused.

Does the reboot mean they are starting from the beginning (origin stories) or are they just renumbering anything?

anyway, i am also sort of glad cause maybe now i can finally know which ones to buy :P

I wouldn't get too excited; most of these books will be gone inside of a year, and the bulk of any changes will be reversed within two years, if past experience is any guide.
