I'm a junior in college, but I SHOULD be a senior. I don't think I'm dumb by any means, but I find it so hard to be organized, to study, and to attend certain classes. I have a 2.3 gpa right now after failing 2 classes last semester. Before that I had a 2.75 and I can't fail again, but I see myself doing the same thing as last semester and this semester just started. I've already missed certain assignments, skipped class, etc. Any advice on how to organize ones life? I don't really do much except stay home or hang out with the girl friend. I don't even have a job which makes this even more stressful. I know college isn't for everyone, but I need/want a BA degree. I just can't find any motivation to study and do my college thing.

Does anyone have advice on setting up your schedule or advice on how you study? I really wanted this to be my turn it around semester, but after the first week my old habits came back. BTW I'm retaking one of those failed classes(Accounting) and a B would almost automatically give me a 2.5 or so because the F would be dropped. My goal is to graduate with at least a 2.75.

We can't do anything to motivate you...and just to clear everything up, you are the reason that you are getting completely mediocre grades and only you can fix this.

You answered your own question. For the most part, it is not about intelligence. It is about motivation, will power, time management, determination, etc. Until you have the internal motivation to succeed, you are just wasting your time and money. ...no one can motivate you but you If you were really motivated, you would not be having the issues you stated (skip cIasses, not doing assignments, etc)

Get rid of the Computer (at least for everything but homework. Don't have a TV or game system in your room and I'm sure you'll be fine. Also, don't go party on Fri. and Sat. nights if you are doing poorly in school. You simply need to spend time studying.

I don't smoke I made the name when I was 13. Now I'm 20. I'm not asking for a miracle. Just asking for studying tips. Maybe advice on how to organize ones schedule and tips on studying.

Maybe it can be that I lack interest in the subjects I take? I'm majoring in Marketing and I had taking all of the other classes which I'm forced to take for the sake of fullfilling a core whuich also have nothing to do with Marketing at all.

Right now I feel like going outside buying a day planner and trying my best to stick to it. Also the game/tv advice sounds like it can definitely help.(to other poster)

Like I said, it all comes down to motivation that you don't seem to have atm.
You can buy all the planners you want to, but that will not fix your motivation to succeed. You know what you need to do; you just lack the will to do what needs to be done

There's no magic answer. You have to go to class, do every assignment, make sure you understand concepts in class, and study for every quiz/exam. If you don't care to do those things then you are wasting your time and money going to college. It's really as simple as that.

Do some work every day. Set aside a time when you're going to sit down and get on with it for an hour or two.

That's what you have to do. People don't do good in college because they have special organizational secrets. They do good because they put in the time necessary to get the grades they want to get.
