I need MAJOR help. ANYONE!

Hi, i ordered a hard drive and a CD/DVD burner, they came together, with 1 ribbon and SATA cables. The things is, its not a SATA hard drive and if i hook up the HD as the master, and the CD drive as the slave, it won't even recognize the slave, or it would put the slave as the Master. Ive tried every possible way to put it in, but it never works.

HELP ME!
