[QUOTE="airg6"][QUOTE="Bluestorm-Kalas"] Well, Twilight of the Thunder God is my favorite, so if you weren't a fan of that one, chances are you might not like the others...although a lot of fans love Versus the World, have you listned to Death in Fire, For the Stabwounds in our Backs, or Bloodshed? Another fan fav. is Pursuit of Vikings from Fate of Norns.

UbiquitousAeon

I dont think ive listened to any of those, besides the pursuit of vikings. I need to check out more stuff of theirs. Ill try and get some stuff of theirs tomorrow. Are you into doom metal at all? I need some more recomendations. Preferablly Death doom. Such as MY Dying Bride or Novembers Doom.

Shape of Despair, Funeral, Draconian and Pantheist hands down.

Pantheist, Shape of Despair and Draconian were awesome. I think my favorite was Pantheist. I just wish these bands had more clean vocals. I love MDB's vocalist's voice. Its so creepy and you can hear the pain in his voice. And, yes, I know that sounds cliche and pretentious. lol

Ive heard some of their earlier stuff too. Its ok. I love Viking metal just as much as the next guy. But, I dont know, they just seem okay to me. IMO, Ensiferum are much better

Joe satriani, Steve vai, mr. Malmsteen and..... Steve lukather are all guitar masters. So you'd probably find something you like in the midst of some of their stuff.

[QUOTE="airg6"]Theyre my favorite band. To me, Mikael Akerfeldt is the greatest songwriter/musician of our time. His voice is godly. But I understand why you could find them boring.airg6

I'll give Mikael credit, he does know how to be unique, it's just a sound that is not for everyone.

I agree. Ive tryed to get all of my friends into Opeth. Some of them like Opeth, but arent too into them. Its hard to be a casual listener of Opeth. I listen to them everyday and love every single one of their songs/albums. I guess, like you said, its not a sound that everyone can get into.

Its the sound I sleep to.

Same actually. lol. I usually put on Damnation or BWP. Sometimes MAYH and or Still Life. I like to listen to more mellow Opeth when sleeping.

I recognize Opeth as a great band. They are all talented musicians and I respect them. Thing is, Opeth does nothing for me. I feel nothing when listening to them. On a technical level, the band is excellent, but to my ears I can't stand to listen to them. Does that make sense?

The Strokes - for me, they were kinda hard to get into, but after awhile now...I AM IN LOVE WITH THEM

Against Me! - pretty much same reaction as above, but much different music, along the punk lines

Vampire Weekend - 2 albums...pretty much sound the same...but both amazing...watch their music videos

MGMT - sound like Vampire Weekend on LSD

Neutral Milk Hotel - one of the best Indy bands i have ever heard

Avenged Sevenfold - just bad ass and i love them

Radiohead - Listen to OK Computer and The Bends first then explore on

and last but not least....COLDPLAY!!!! - favorite band of all time...love every song

@kussese

hey way to come into the thread in between my posts and make me look like (even more of a) total jerk. thanks a lot guy. Like i need the help.

There's a lot of awesome candyrat artists though. They are the unheard of real musicians still plying their craft in this age of insubstantiality, if that's even a word. Oh well, bed time for me.

THETRUEDOZAH

Candyrat is a good label and there's no denying that Antoine Dufour, Don Ross, and Andy McKee are damn good musicians. However, that doesn't mean that they're the ONLY good musicians or that their genre is the ONLY good genre. To say that the genre there's no talent left in rock is to say that thousands - heck, tens of thousands - of bands that you've never even listened are talentless. There's deeper, more complex music in the genre than the mainstream rock you're probably familiar with.

That said, mainstream rock/metal isn't necessarily bad. Not everyone wants to dissect the latest prog rock masterpiece. Sometimes music can be about shouting and banging your head, and that's just fine.
