Hey guys I just wanted to ask anyone thats from America a question.

I've been born and raised in London, UK all my life and I have a job opportunity in Fort Worth, Dallas, Texas and wanted to know what's it like down there?

I would mainly like to know the:

Culture

Economy

Ease of finding accomodation and the average price of rent for one person

Crime levels and general public safety in Fort Worth and Dallas area

A general idea of tax, vat, etc

I know im asking a lot but its going to be a huge decision so I just wanted some reassurance. Thanks in advance for any advice :)

How are you a "fellow American" if you were born and raised in London?

My first question would be how much were you offered for the job...

Edit, actually that would be my second question. derp

I really like San Antonio (also in Texas), but I've never actually been to Dallas. I'd assume it was like any other big city which contains a mix of both a**holes and plenty of good people. Good luck with your decision.

I haven't been to Dallas, but as a whole I think it'd be a great life experience for you to get out and explore different countries and learn about different cultures.

You're still going to have a hard time in Dallas I think since they speak English there too.

Well it's much safer then the Balitmore/DC area where I live. The economy's pretty good down there too. If you have a good job offer I say go for it.

Summers are hot n muggy. Severe thunderstorms with hail and possibly tornados are a way of life over there. Be prepared to see armadillos skulking around.

Texas is perhaps the largest culture shock to anyone who hasn't been there before, and Dallas is no exception. That said, It is a well renowned city with plenty to do, full of diverse people, with a growing economy and a fairly high standard of living.

Just start attending Cowboys, Rangers, Stars games and use it as a starting conversation point. Don't really bring up the University of Oklahoma. And your sexy accent will score you points with the ladies.

Best of luck my friend ;)

Seriously? The TV here is pretty dire.

I love it compared to tv over here. Hell I don't watch tv over here. It really is all reality tv here. Plus when nothing else is on they still play gameshows like bullseye and catchphrase and a lot of the old gameshows (which I am a sucker for sadly). Not as many channels as over here but I still can't find anything on tv here. More often then not american tv is sickening to watch.

Oh and the news is worse here too.

You clearly don't own a TV. I watch TV and zero is reality TV or gameshows. There is a lot to watch here, and on top of that Netflix and Hulu.

OK. I've been to a number of bars in the US that have great beers and great people, much better than British bars I've been to. You're welcome.

 Beer is better? More like smaller and watered down. Ill give it to a few micro brews but even then. To each his own I guess. You're welcome?

There is bad beer and small portions in British bars too, you know.

Sure if your getting a pub beer from a bottle. But European pint > American pint

What's your argument? If you order a small, bad beer in the Us you're getting something worse than if you order a larger, better beer in the UK? I agree, but that doesn't mean that bars in the UK are inherently better than in the US.

UK has a larger pint. Which means more beer. Pretty self explanatory. The beer itself has more alcohol in it and thus tastes less watered down. Ever had an english stella then an american stella. Noticable difference.

Avoid the Interstate highways during rush hour, they are as bad as Chicago. Traffic comes to a dead standstill.

Develop a taste for barbeque, beer, and NFL football. Never speak against gun ownership.:P
