[QUOTE="Hubadubalubahu"]

[QUOTE="thegerg"] What's your argument? If you order a small, bad beer in the Us you're getting something worse than if you order a larger, better beer in the UK? I agree, but that doesn't mean that bars in the UK are inherently better than in the US.thegerg

UK has a larger pint. Which means more beer. Pretty self explanatory. The beer itself has more alcohol in it and thus tastes less watered down. Ever had an english stella then an american stella. Noticable difference.

Exactly my point. You're talking about ordering a smaller beer vs a bigger beer and a better beer vs a worse beer. That doesn't mean British bars are inherently better.

You seem to be confused. In my humble opinion European beer in general is better. It tastes better to me, has more alcohol, and you get more in a pint which means your not going up to the bar as often. I also enjoy the atmosphere of a pub more then an American bar. It is nothing more than an opinion and is to be taken like that. I'm not trying to pass a bill through congress.

That's great. All I'm saying is that if you order a smaller beer you'll get a smaller beer, and if you order a lower quality beer you'll get a lower quality beer. That's because that's what you chose to order, it's got nothing to do with whether or not it's a bar in int US or a bar in the UK. You can generalize about the atmosphere all you like.

Your're ordering the same beer. Order a Guinness in both Europe and America and In my opinion the European beer will be better. This should not be a tough concept.

Hey guys I just wanted to ask anyone thats from America a question.

I've been born and raised in London, UK all my life and I have a job opportunity in Fort Worth, Dallas, Texas and wanted to know what's it like down there?

I would mainly like to know the:

Culture

Economy

Ease of finding accomodation and the average price of rent for one person

Crime levels and general public safety in Fort Worth and Dallas area

A general idea of tax, vat, etc

I know im asking a lot but its going to be a huge decision so I just wanted some reassurance. Thanks in advance for any advice :)

SPBoss

How are you a "fellow American" if you were born and raised in London?

My first question would be how much were you offered for the job...

Edit, actually that would be my second question. derp

I don't have to be from the same place as you to call you fellow, it has several meanings you know lol. $44,000 negotiable :)

Ummm no I don't know, I'm an American! That means one thing here dude, that you are also American lol. Kind of like you guys smoking a phag (stupid censors, it is a cigarette in Britian).... don't say that here bro lol. I don't know if a country move is worth $44k, wouldn't be for me.

Haven't been to dallas but English culture > American culture in my opinion. I want to go back! Better tv too.

Hubadubalubahu

Seriously? The TV here is pretty dire.

I love it compared to tv over here. Hell I don't watch tv over here. It really is all reality tv here. Plus when nothing else is on they still play gameshows like bullseye and catchphrase and a lot of the old gameshows (which I am a sucker for sadly). Not as many channels as over here but I still can't find anything on tv here. More often then not american tv is sickening to watch.

Oh and the news is worse here too.

I recently went to the states.

Only watched some TV at night in my hotel room, but every channel I watched was 70% commercials. 2 minutes regular programming - 5 minutes commercials - repeat.

Just as if you order lobster on the coast it will be better than if you order lobster 2,000 miles inland. Again, if you want a better drink order a better drink.

This isn't lobster though, the analogy isn't doing it for me. If the point you're trying to make is to order an American beer in America and a European beer in Europe than the argument just doesn't hold up. In case you haven't been following along, I have already stated that I prefer European beer to American beer, so why would I order something I do not like? That said, in my opinion American beer also tastes better in Europe as well, as I have said before it doesn't taste as watered down. These are opinions of an anonymous person on the internet. Why can you not stand that people have differing opinions gerg. I am not imposing martial law to force people to acknowledge my opinion as a fact. I am not undertaking a scientific study of the worlds beers so I may convert peoples taste buds and preferences. I am making a statement on the internet.

I have an aunt who lives in Texas, and she really doesn't like it. She says that the big cities are better than the smaller ones, though.

Culture, rodeos and steakhouses (some stereotypes are true). I knew someone from Texas who boarded at my place in Chicago, though, and he said that the Latino food down there beats the hell out of anything in Chicago, and we've got some pretty good Latino food in Chicago.

The rest I don't know exactly. One thing I will say is that everyone I know that lives in Texas complains constantly about getting around. The public transit systems are apparently sh*t, and the traffic jams are horrible (FYI, we have some of the best in the country in Chicago and from what my French techer who is from France says, it's inferior to European systems, so it's a good bet the public transit will be WAY below what you're used to). Also, you won't have the NHS anymore so take that into your cost considerations.

[QUOTE="thegerg"] OK. I've been to a number of bars in the US that have great beers and great people, much better than British bars I've been to. You're welcome.Postmortem123

And British people are a horrible bunch.

Way to generalise a whole nation.

I'm sure you don't say that to people who generalize Americans though huh? That would be so uncool /s

Listen pal, there are many more American beers than just Budweiser and Coors, my guess is you have never tried anything but. If you have, well then you need to broaden your horizons a bit. But I don't think that will do much considering you have nothing good to say about my country or my people....typical

Listen pal, I think maybe you should read peoples conversations before jumping into them. I live in America, I have tried more than two of the beers here. I prefer European beer to American beer, your beer just isn't as good. This is an opinion, now deal with it. Not sure where you got the impression that I have only drank Budweiser and Coors when neither has been brought up in conversation...
