I got a final exam coming up for most of my past tests I just read the unit word for word. This time it isn't working because it is just TOO much information that is being tested. I got about 12 chapters that have about 5 sections each. The topics are also spread out, I got every part of the human body being tested from the reproductive system to the nervous system, Evolution, and genetics.

how do I break this up to study? I cannot read all of this because I don't absorb the information anymore. Should I try and just know the vocabulary from each section?

I don't know about breaking it up, but make sure you have complete privacy in the house. All distractions should be put away or turned off, except for some nice low music. Also, try looking for "cheat sheets" on the internet. They can help you study.

Are you trying to cram, or have you been good about studying throughout the quarter/semester/year?

In terms of biology, all I knows about is whales. While I can't tell you what the blowhole is for, I can certainly tell you what it's NOT for, and when I do, you'll understand why I can never go back to Seaworld.

I don't think there is an easy way to study for subjects that require memorization like biology, history, etc... The best bet is to just sit down in a quiet place and read. Make sure you understand major concepts and do your best to memorize definitions and such.

As a biology major I kinda feel your pain. Last semester I had learn the phylum from bryophyta to anthopytha and porifera to chordates. Had to learn quite a few of the cla-sses and characteristics of each as well. On top of that I had to memorize all the steps in glycolysis, citric acid cycle, and the electron transport chain in detail for cell biology. It is a good thing I love biology...

When exactly is your exam? I too have a Bio exam next week, which I'm partly prepared for.

In all honesty, if you don't normally memorize something the first/second time you hear/read it, then the best way to study for bio is to consistently look over your notes. Lets say the first unit- you'd skim over your notes and write down the things you don't remember well. Those are what you will go over and test yourself with. When you are done one unit, just write down only names or subjects/principles and explain it to yourself. Do that for all the units and at the end- you should be able to 'recite' your whole note book if someone asks. Then memorize the diagrams.

The only thing with bio though, or any subject - when you are studying try not to do so for more than an hour. Take breaks in between but keep the studying consistent within the days.
