its not that its cool to hate them, its just that people overrate them all the time when ipods are just average at best MP3 players with no interesting features, easy to scratch, crappy codec support, and they barely improve them after every new release.

Also, you've never given a legitimate reason why the iPod sucks. The only complaint you've cited so far is that everyone's already got one. Which means you're NOT buying an iPod solely as a status symbol, which actually makes you no different than the people you are talking about.

I had a 30 GB iPod video until about a month ago when I sold it. I don't really think it sucks, I just think that people are so brainwashed into thinking that anything other than an iPod is ****. Frankly, it's annoying.

On Topic: By having this conversation, I came to have a new perspective on things. For example:

iPod vs Zune

Mac vs PC

Apple vs Microsoft

You love one and hate the other. Although both have strongg points and both have weak points.

If I didn't have $1000 tied up, I would consider the iRiver.

Overrated. You either have one or your stupid. I see alot of people with Sandisk's and Samsung. Saw a classmate with a Zune, and I will too. 8)

I don't see what all the hate is for. I have an iPod but that doesn't mean I think the Zune or any other MP3 player sucks. when I got my first iPod (a second generation mini) in 2005 it was partly due to the popularity (me & all of my friends were getting it for our birthdays that year) and because it seemed like the best MP3 player available at the time. Now I have a 30 GB iPod video which i've owned since last September. It's a good device and I haven't had any problems with it but it definitely isn't perfect. The biggest problem being that thy're desgined to attract fingerprints and scratches like crazy so a case is pretty much required if you want ot keep it in in good condition, also Apple hasn't quite gotten the video right yet. I read an article on the Zune the other day and it looks nice. I'd even consider it as my next player when my iPod dies since it's something different, supports wmv videos so I don't have ot convert them and has built in FM radio and other features that the iPod is lacking. Unfortunately Microsft's retarded DRM scheme means my entire iTunes library would be useless, but its their decision if they want to block out potential customers...

Lol I know... it was a joke, but think about it... EVERYONE minus a few have an iPod... That's not because they're the best... It's just because they've been in the game for a really long time and people go with the most established company.

When I got my iPod around 4 years ago it was the best one on the market, so now all of my music is on itunes. When I'm finally ready for a new MP3 player it will probably be a little while(All my friends had iPods, but theirs were a lot newer than mine and almost everyone of theirs has broken at-least once mine still works flawlessly. I of-course changed the battery because it wouldn't last more than 2 1/2 hours ). I will get another iPod because I don't want to convert all my music(I'm not even sure I could).xXtheabombXx

why would you need to convert your music??? OH yea, ipods automatically convert your songs to m4a files. I on the other hand like my mp3 player to play mp3s. Not like it's even that hard to find software that converts files though.

I bought my 30 GB iPod video before all of these other high-capacity music players were on the market. It works great and I see no reason why I would buy another music player for quite some time. I use it quite a bit and it has lasted longer than some of the portable CD players I have owned. I wish there was a dedicated volume control, but that's nitpicking.

Also, for some reason when I convert videos to the iPod-playable format using iTunes, they have no sound for some reason. It's not that big a deal though since I didn't really buy it for playing videos anyway.
