mortality =/= existence of god
Unless you can provide evidence to the contrary which supports your claims... I'd like to see that. Otherwise... stop. Please?
[QUOTE="Codename_Drake"]I'd think some of the religious beliefs can make people more afraid...not less.I think religions were created because death is inevitable and often unpredictable; people could be less afraid of death if there was an explanation behind it (and something to look forward to after it)... So I don't really think death being unavoidable proves religion true. And besides, people live a lot longer on average now than they used to.

Maybe so, but I bet a lot of people are comforted by thinking that the deaths of themselves or their loved ones are all a part of "God's plan" and as long as they're good they'll go to Heaven and live in happiness together forever. That's probably less scary than death just being a random happening out of their control that only means the end of their consciousness.
[QUOTE="Funky_Llama"]And? I was responding to you...not him.Yeah, but that guy said that it was deliberate, to present a challenge.

Context is important. He was claiming that God kills humans to present a challenge to humanity. I was challenging that. Your reply was irrelevant.

If I were religious, I'd find death scary because it would carry the potential for eternal suffering.
[QUOTE="Codename_Drake"]I'd think some of the religious beliefs can make people more afraid...not less. religion was "made" so people could easily see the "creators" best way of living a good life. try convincing a person that living by the 10 commandments are the best way, or tell him /her that if he dont live by the 10 commandments, a greater deity will strike down on him/her. whats easiest and more shocking? its just a toolI think religions were created because death is inevitable and often unpredictable; people could be less afraid of death if there was an explanation behind it (and something to look forward to after it)...
