Born in PA, moved to the south. I hated the accent to begin with. Y'all, cut on/off, and worst of all, HOSEPIPE got on my nerves. But now and again, I catch myself saying y'all and cut on/off, but very rarely. My northern accent is too deeply embedded to give way to southern.
I live in PA and spent some time in the south when in the army. Never ever picked up y'all.:P Living here for a few years and just being around too many people with the accent kind of forces you to pick it up. I slap myself whenever I say y'all though:)I live in PA and spent some time in the south when in the army. Never ever picked up y'all.:P[QUOTE="Grodus5"]

I am willing to make it illegal, or to force smokers to be in the most restricted zones ever.
As progress has done well over in California and other states.
Soon, smoking outside will be prohibited...
Trust me, I have a plan, as do we who hate the idiots poisoning our world.

So if people don't agree with you You'll force them to!
I also like your "Us and them" mentality you have towards smokers.
You view smokers as posioning our world and you have a plan to put them in restricted areas or get rid of them entirely.
You know you remind me of someone...
(Joking. Its not the same as that by a long shot even if the patterns of thinkingare similar.)

Well this thread is now useless...
It's off-topic beyond off-topic and it is stupid.

just like you
I did too until I moved to Georgia. But with your attitude, hopefully you don't have to leave your home area much in your life. And "y'all" is actually a word. It's a combination of "you" and "all" like "can't" is a combination of "can" and "not".GamerForca
I don't have an attitude. I told you all I reallize the error of my thinking. I have some minor prejudices but they are not deep rooted in the way I think.
But no. I will never change my opinion on the word "y'all" It just cannot be done. It will always cut into me.

Don't worry, that ones only used by the hardcorest of the hardcore southerns. You almost never hear it anymore. Its a garden hose... Well hosepipe is used in England so it's not so weird.Technically Americans have the accent, not English...It's true.Second you have awful English skills, and spelling skills, and so most of the words you use are either wrong, or also not words. Finally, southern don't have an accent, it's due to atmospheric conditions, and poor education and "word stretching" or the prospect of stretching out syllables properly, which is automatically taught in the more northern areas of education.CerebrisWow...you're really uneducated when it comes to the subject of linguistics. Everyone in the world has an accent. There are accents that are more widely accepted, yet each region, and sometimes each county, has its own differences in pronunciation and emphases. Describing these differences as lack of education is a vary narrow minded, and incidentally inaccurate, way of looking at it. Language is a means of communicating with one another, and is in a perpetual state of flux. It evolves and adapts in order for people to communicate with one another with increasing efficiency and clarity. At times these changes are arbitrary, or even due to mispronunciations, but the bottom line is that we understand one another. Whether your language is a matter of clicks of the tongue or stream of obstruents and fricatives, no one language, accent, or dialect is superior. We just like to think so for sake of education, universality, ability to trade, and elitism. As for the South using a language of "poor education," you've got to be kidding. As a region, it suffers in public education, but the problem isn't with regional dialect. In fact, the ubiquitous "you all" or "y'all" that was used earlier as evidence of the South's poor grammar, "you all" is the proper expression for second-person plural pronoun, and not "you guys" as many Northerners, and especially many Midwesterners use.
Technically Americans have the accent, not English...
It's true.

He supports slow-suicide (IE smoking, and he has the gall to put it on his avatar) and has awful formulation of his sentences and thoughts.
wowwhat are you talking about? white supremacy wtf?Personally, this generation has failed, and thus if I see an idiot, I will classify them as an idiot.
Despite whatever punishment occurs from it, because I hate idiots, not because their stupid, but because they don't learn and they keep being immature and unintelligent, and destroying the generation and society even more.
So yes... ToS threats don't scare me, however this thread could technically be construed as racial or pro-white or supremacist or even hate-like as their are qualities in it for all those things, as well as the fact most of those people live down there.

Neat; I went to high school near Decatur, ALI don't really have much of a southern accent, but I do have something to say about the word y'all. English doesn't a have a simplified plural form of "you". (an analogous for the French "vous" when it is used as a plural) so y'all seems like a perfectly reasonable substitute. It sounds way better than "you guys" IMO.

I have watched your rantings abit over the last few days, and as hard as it was, I kept myself from responding.
However, I could not deny myself the opportunity to point out that you said "their" when you meant to say "there". Which if I recall is one of the things you ranted against in another thread.
