Why is it that animated films always get shafted when it comes to best picture consideration? Pixar films only get nominated for Best Animated Film, and they win it EVERY TIME.

Anyways, I think "Up" deserves some credit. I don't think a film has touched me that much emotionally in a long time (2 scenes come to mind, but i don't want to spoil anything). If you haven't seen it because you think it's just a "kiddie movie", think again.

While I DO NOT think it should win, it at least deserves a nomination.

Because it is animated and there were only 5 slots. Now there are 10 and I am HOPING it gets a nomination. I highly doubt it though.

Oddly enough, I didn't really like Up.

I usually love everything Pixar puts out, they make some of the most charming, touching, and smart movies you'll ever see (I know it's not just "kiddie crap"), but I just don't know what it was about Up that didn't really spark my interest, it just didn't touch me like most other Pixar films have. I'm starting to think I should watch it again, maybe I missed something...?

Overall, I prefer their other films, but the beginning "married life" scene, and the scrapbook scene are just unparalleled in any other Pixar movie in my opinion.

I dunno... My favorite Pixar films are Wall-E, The Incredibles, and Ratatouille, in that order, and I think they are all far superior to Up from start to finish.

Like I said, maybe I should watch Up again...

Wow, that was fantastic! It warmed my heart a little and put a smile on my face, THAT is what I always expect from a Pixar film. I DO need to watch this again, it feels like I didn't even watch the same movie when I went to the theater.

It'll be there certainly. I think it'll also be nominated for Screenplay, Score and possibly Director. I would have no problem with it winning Picture. I think its a movie I would like even more the second time around. Though I do hope they hold a spot for A Serious Man. A very undervalued film this year.

IDK why but if a film is animated its automatically disqualified from Best Picture (barring Avatar, of course). Typical elitist movie snobs!

Beauty and the Beast.

Back in 1991 there was no Best Animated Film category, Beauty and the Beast was the reason why they created it. I think it should have won that award.

Up is great and deserves a best picture nomination even if it isn't my favorite Pixar movie.

Movies that are heavy in CGI seldom are.. There is a huge prejudice towards movies like that, especially when the main characters are predominately works of CGI.

Its gonna be a tough call.. Cameron merged the lines.. Even the CGI characters were played by real actors.. Not just through voice.. But their expression, movements, and such were mapped to the character..

I would love to see it get a nomination, but I don't see the Academy doing so. If they had gotten rid of the animation category (which they should have done), then I could see it getting a nomination.

I just finished watching this movie 10 minutes ago. Brilliant. I'm not into the whole movie awards thing, but it's certainly one of my favorite movies.

I would love to see it get a nomination, but I don't see the Academy doing so. If they had gotten rid of the animation category (which they should have done), then I could see it getting a nomination. sammyjenkis898

Even if it gets a nomination (imo it doesn't deserve one though), it has no chance of winning...

Are Up in the Air and The Hurt Locker the favorites right now?

[QUOTE="F1_2004"]I thought Avatar was guaranteed to win best picture?sSubZerOo

I don't think Avatar is even the favorite to win..

Movies that are heavy in CGI seldom are.. There is a huge prejudice towards movies like that, especially when the main characters are predominately works of CGI.

As far as I know, Avatar is the frontrunner. It's certainly being given some of the highest odds of winning on gambling sites.

I'm fairly certain that Up in the Air is considered the front runner, with The Hurt Locker also having a good chance at winning.

Aren't they nominating like 10 films this year. I'm sure it will get a nomination along with a few other films that don't deserve it.

I think Up deserves a Best Picture nomination as well, but I won't bet my life on it that it actually will.

:O are you implying Avatar doesn't deserve it?

Anyways I hope Up in the Air doesn't win it. If another pretentious George Clooney film wins Oscars for yet another year, I'm gonna go nuts.
