[QUOTE="LostProphetFLCL"]I think the biggest thing though was the HUGE evolution gaming made during the decade. We went from the classic 16 bit games to 3D gaming which brought an absolute SLEW of innovation from the industry. As I mentioned, 97 and 98 alone were probably the two best years in gaming history.
So many classic franchises put out classic installments in those two years:Final Fantasy 7Metal Gear SolidResident Evil 2Goldeneye 007Crash Bandicoot 2Tomb Raider 2Tekken 3Gran Tourismo 1POKEMON RED AND BLUEHalf-LifeLegend of Zelda: Ocarina of Timeand MORE!Think about it, you basically have the entire life-cycles of the PS1 and N64 in the 90's and those were two incredible consoles.

I think 1992 and 1993 are the most important in the 90's because id Software basically made the FPS genre, but 97 and 98 are important as well.
The jump to good 3d was a much more important evolution than just the invention of one more genre.
3d is the absolute standard now in every game. Even 2d fighters AT LEAST have 3d graphics these days.
Super Mario 64 was probably the most influential of the 90's games as I do believe it was the first major 3D platformer.
Personally, 97-98 are just so great to me as quite a few of my all-time fav games came out in just those two years, including my top two AKA Final Fantasy 7 and Metal Gear Solid (well, I put the series as a whole as my #2 but MGS3 was definitely my fav of the series.).
This, this, a thousand times this. If only I had been born in 1987 or something...
But instead, I was born in 1996. T_T
I thought the 90s were fantastic. Spent my early childhood watching the great cartoons and being exposed to new and exciting music. People were much friendlier and life was simple.
Nowadays everything is "meh".

I don't even like coffee, and I loved those commercials. Christmas ones were always my favorites, back when McDonalds made awesome commercials and seeing polar bears made me want to drink pop. I don't even care if it was truthless, standardless mind-****ing that had no point but to reel in the impressionable minds of children, it was amazing. The 90s wasn't too bad. I remember getting an SNES for Christmas in 1993. My folks went through great lengths to make me think they didn't get it, my dad even told my mom sorry he couldn't find one and made sure I overheard him saying it the day before. But you're still not missing much. I also remember when we went to war with Iraq while I was in elementary school (only to end up going myself 12 years later). Look at the bright side: stastically speaking you'll die at least ten years after me.
ya i was born in 87 so i experienced some of the 80s -not much just the nes , and some 80s music , but i agree 90s were the best decade ever , 2000-2003ish was ok but after 2006 there was nothing left, for me to say yay about , sure there is one company still around -nintendo but still ,

this x100Yeah growing up in the 90's was definitely amazing.
Great music all over the radio. In fact, I got into Nirvana at the age of 2 or 3 as Nevermind came out while I was a toddler and I used to watch MTV all the time.
Then you had the absolutely amazing 90's Nickelodeon which just had sooo many classic shows like Rocko's Modern Life and Are You Afraid of the Dark.
Got to witness alot of the evolution of gaming and got to experience the best consoles (PS1, Genesis, N64) during their hayday.
I heart being a 90's kid!

Well sure, ups and downs really - the dance music scene was very enjoyable in the early-mid part of the nineties. Music all in all was a mixed bag much as it is today - we just latch onto the (often brief) scenes that bubbled over and forget about the commercial dirge that clogged up most of the airwaves. I liked the fashion of the 90s (probably because my physique suited the mid-90s heroin chic look i.e. malnourished). One thing I will say about the 90s though is that people really loved to absolutely smash it up - twas a messy decade that's for sure...
The 90's were great. Tv was actually good back then and some of my favoriite video games came out in the 90's like Fallout and Banjo Kazoiee.
Everything looks better when your not in itdarkfox101
Yup, I grew up in the 90s and it's not nearly as exciting as TC makes it out to be. Also, I find it really funny that TC is going off on auto-tuning and saying he likes Blink, people were just as down on Blink for having no talent and just spamming power chords as they are on derivative artists today for spamming autotuners.
Do you think the 90's were a great time to grow up?
martinX3X
From a pop-culture standpoint (since that really seems to be all that you addressed in your post), not really. Or at least, not substantially any better than most other recent decades.
Sure...I reminisce about the 90s. But I know quite a few people who are about 10 years older than me. For them, it's "the 80's were the best decade". For the people slightly older, it's "the 70s were the best decade". Etc.
Make no mistake that in 2031, people are going to be reminiscing about how THIS (as in now, the "10s") was the best decade.
I was born in 91, and growing up in the 90's wasn't that amazing. I remember Blink 182, the Backstreet Boys and the Spice Girls being very popular and there were really slow computers.
i think every generation wants to be born before they were.
or later.:P
oh and 1989 is by far the best year to be born
I grew up in the 90's. We were right on the cusp of the technological rise where it started to permeate every family. Kids played outside, graffiti was put on walls, there was no pampering of children, and cartoons were amazing.bobaban
YES! The cartoons were incredible. Nothing today can compare to them

I graduated from High School in '94. You are romantisizing. Trust me, you didn't miss much.
same....but the music scene was better.....gaming was solid..(SNES and then the following couple of years were full of PSone RPG Goodness)...basketball was more entertaining......technology blew though...Gaming was BEYOND solid in the 90's.
97 and 98 are arguably the best years in gaming history.
Amen, brother! :) N64 came out with GoldenEye 007, Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Super Mario 64 etc, PS1 had Final Fantasy 7 released, the epic Dreamcast fail was beginning (haha), Pokemon was going to be released on Gameboy (massive) and sooo much more was happening in the gaming world :DPlease Log In to post.
