I shall never acquiesce to the RFID chip, nor do I find this form of shopping at all convenient. Will you use get an RFID chip, should they become affordable or convenient for your life?

If you shop at Walmart or Sam's club you will have little choice...will be there very soon -it will be as prevalent as the bar code

I dislike Wal-Mart, and I rarely shop there. I don't support slave-labor, even if it means cheaper clothes.

I think I'm missing something.

Is this a chip that ties your actual person to your bank account? I don't have sound on at work but it looks like he was "charged" as soon as he walked through the security doorway. Is that correct?

I dislike them as well. But they are the industry leader...where they go, others follow -they are prepping their stores for this as we speak -already use it in their distribution centers

Yeah, you just pay automatically with the RFID chip.

No, There is a radio frequency id tag in all items (or there will be) -this replaces the bar code = don't have to manually scan each item = stores know where all items are (less shrink/theft), less check out lines, etc. So you could walk your basket through a scanner then just swipe a card The add is taking it a step further with autopay

I will never use this. And I don't think walmart will remove cashiers just to use this technology.. And it's more like privacy intrusions of the future. It's bad enough as it is.

No RFID is in the items -not yet in the cards...people will hold onto cash for a long time...people are just like that

Well there are other methods of acquiring food which is all I need to survive

"He also forced everyone, small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on his right hand or on his forehead, so that no one could buy or sell unless he had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of his name."

–Rev. 13:16-17

^yea sounds familiar. With greater reason I will not use this. Although hopefully I will be dead before this thing has spread everywhere.

I have thought about that as well...though there is no mark on you, just the stuff -but there will soon be something implanted in 'you' that contains all your info (50 years...total guess though) RFID will be here (as in people paying that way) w/in 5 years -the stores already have the scanners at the back (receive merchandise) -they are just waiting on manufacturers to fully implement it

It will...that is a major purpose The RFID is 'in' the item = store knows where it is -just set scanners to go off if item has not been processed through checkout

IT should be illegal to have electronic identification attached to your body. But it's probably going to happen anyways.

I don't know. AS often as technology develops people find a way to exploit it or a way around it for their own reasons. It might stop petty shoplifting.

True and true...
but that is the biggest problem (at least at Walmart)
-biggest losses are Movies/Games/Cd's...not TV's
-so stop the bleeding so to speak

Does it like scan all the items that goes through it, and then charges your bank account? That's pretty cool.

The only flaw I can think of is if it double scans something, or the item rings up at the wrong price. Also, what about giftcards and stuff?

Electromagnetic Pulse maybe, and people have already figured out how to make small generators which would be enough to take a couple of items.

Scans all at once...then you still pay like normal -the guy in the ad had a card that you just wave by the pay counter There will be still be cashiers, but they will just monitor several lanes Other problems exist today (double scan, wrong price, etc.)...just resolve the same way

Man the RFID thing gives me the chills. One of the most frightening ideas ever. I know referencing 1984 is rather cliche. But really this is like "Big Brother." (or his brother "Big Business" :P) I will flat out refuse to do this RFID thing. Send me to the grave first.

I could understand them putting RFID chips in packaging for items, like they do those little magnetized strips they put in video game boxes, but I would refuse to get an implant that would connect to my bank account. To me, that's just asking people to mug you and take a knife to you so you can get the chip.

Uhm most of that they can already. We've had data systems for that for years where I work already. But we are not fond of it so we still reorder the old fashion way. (and the millions saved will end up the boss wallet, not benefit the customer that much I bet.

Yes I know it is very hard to stop the ones that are determined to steal. And as it is now I guess they would be the only one going out of their way to steal something with an RFID chip. However that might change when it becomes more normal.
