I shall never acquiesce to the RFID chip, nor do I find this form of shopping at all convenient. Will you use get an RFID chip, should they become affordable or convenient for your life?

If you shop at Walmart or Sam's club you will have little choice...will be there very soon -it will be as prevalent as the bar codeI dislike Wal-Mart, and I rarely shop there. I don't support slave-labor, even if it means cheaper clothes.
I dislike them as well. But they are the industry leader...where they go, others follow -they are prepping their stores for this as we speak -already use it in their distribution centersI dislike Wal-Mart, and I rarely shop there. I don't support slave-labor, even if it means cheaper clothes.

I think I'm missing something.
Is this a chip that ties your actual person to your bank account? I don't have sound on at work but it looks like he was "charged" as soon as he walked through the security doorway. Is that correct?
Atmanix
Yeah, you just pay automatically with the RFID chip.

No, There is a radio frequency id tag in all items (or there will be) -this replaces the bar code = don't have to manually scan each item = stores know where all items are (less shrink/theft), less check out lines, etc. So you could walk your basket through a scanner then just swipe a card The add is taking it a step further with autopay[QUOTE="Atmanix"]

So instead of people stealing wallets they'll be stealing fingers now?
I will never use this. And I don't think walmart will remove cashiers just to use this technology.. And it's more like privacy intrusions of the future. It's bad enough as it is.

No RFID is in the items -not yet in the cards...people will hold onto cash for a long time...people are just like that[QUOTE="EMOEVOLUTION"]I will never use this. And I don't think walmart will remove cashiers just to use this technology.. .rawsavonWorked theer for 6 years...it is happening -1 cashier will watch many lanes
Not using it.cyberdarkkidwill not have a choice You do have a choice.. you don't have to shop at places that use it.

Not using it.cyberdarkkidwill not have a choice Then I'll shop somewhere else I guess and if it's the same thing everywhere, bye bye USA.

[QUOTE="EMOEVOLUTION"] You do have a choice.. you don't have to shop at places that use it.rawsavon
My point is that it will be everywhere...just like the bar code...so where will you shop?
I won't shop. I'll have other people do my shopping for me.So, people are going to lose jobs? EMOEVOLUTIONwalmart claims that jobs will be just be shifted -example: more people on the floor, less cashiers -I say likely story...Walmart loves to cut payroll
I won't shop. I'll have other people do my shopping for me.EMOEVOLUTIONSmartass :P What if you are all alone in life :o

Just like the bar code = all over US, Canada, Europe, etc. -Africa I guess?rawsavon
Well there are other methods of acquiring food which is all I need to survive
"He also forced everyone, small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on his right hand or on his forehead, so that no one could buy or sell unless he had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of his name."
–Rev. 13:16-17
^yea sounds familiar. With greater reason I will not use this. Although hopefully I will be dead before this thing has spread everywhere.

I have thought about that as well...though there is no mark on you, just the stuff -but there will soon be something implanted in 'you' that contains all your info (50 years...total guess though) RFID will be here (as in people paying that way) w/in 5 years -the stores already have the scanners at the back (receive merchandise) -they are just waiting on manufacturers to fully implement itI'm cool with that. No more hassling with long lines and shoplifting will be cut as well. Damn shoplifters.CRS98how will it stop shop lifting? It won't.
[QUOTE="CRS98"]I'm cool with that. No more hassling with long lines and shoplifting will be cut as well. Damn shoplifters.EMOEVOLUTIONhow will it stop shop lifting? It won't. It will...that is a major purpose The RFID is 'in' the item = store knows where it is -just set scanners to go off if item has not been processed through checkout
-but there will soon be something implanted in 'you' that contains all your info (50 years...total guess though) rawsavonIT should be illegal to have electronic identification attached to your body. But it's probably going to happen anyways.

AS often as technology develops people find a way to exploit it or a way around it for their own reasons. It might stop petty shoplifting.

I agree, I don't care if it's optional but once the goverment starts forcing these things on me, I'm going to fight back.
I don't know. AS often as technology develops people find a way to exploit it or a way around it for their own reasons. It might stop petty shoplifting. EMOEVOLUTION
True and true...
but that is the biggest problem (at least at Walmart)
-biggest losses are Movies/Games/Cd's...not TV's
-so stop the bleeding so to speak

I am sure it will be by choice...at first
[QUOTE="rawsavon"][QUOTE="horgen123"]Won't metal block the signal from the chip?horgen123It doesn't...don't know how...but seen it in action...it works I bet someone will work out a easy way to block it. Like EMO and I were saying...they are trying to stop the petty theft...the bleeding

lol, yup. Get ready for missing hands. They'll eventually say it's for our own good.. that it'll protect us from the terrorists.. or something along those lines.
Does it like scan all the items that goes through it, and then charges your bank account? That's pretty cool.
The only flaw I can think of is if it double scans something, or the item rings up at the wrong price. Also, what about giftcards and stuff?

Electromagnetic Pulse maybe, and people have already figured out how to make small generators which would be enough to take a couple of items.

Man the RFID thing gives me the chills. One of the most frightening ideas ever. I know referencing 1984 is rather cliche. But really this is like "Big Brother." (or his brother "Big Business" :P) I will flat out refuse to do this RFID thing. Send me to the grave first.
[QUOTE="rawsavon"] Like EMO and I were saying...they are trying to stop the petty theft...the bleedinghorgen123I'm all for that... Searching around I find that wallets can be made so they block the signal... With help from metal. Like people are saying, never stop those that are really determined to steal...just better stop the lazy/stupid ones Also, this is a big help with inventory (where things are in a store, how many left, when to reorder, auditing inventory)...it will save large companies millions in wasted man hours
I could understand them putting RFID chips in packaging for items, like they do those little magnetized strips they put in video game boxes, but I would refuse to get an implant that would connect to my bank account. To me, that's just asking people to mug you and take a knife to you so you can get the chip.
