The US should free Palastine from Isreal before going to Korea.face_ripperthis will be extremely complicated in terms of politics. Don't get me wrong, I too think Israel should stand down, Jerusalem should be a free city, and Palestine should be liberated, but it's gotten to a point for USA that it's a loss for them to change things around there. They really need to thank British for that.

Hmmm.... we poor acid on it, burn it, and let a badger eat its remains. They (treaties)are worthless. I admit I'm not a good politician, that's why I am not one.

If you're not a good politician, or even one at all, on what do you base your value assessment as to the usefulness of treaties, or any other tool in international relations?
EDIT:
Oh right, the original topic. The United States has over 20,000 troops in South Korea. In the event of a North Korean invasion, we'd already be involved. So the treaty really doesn't matter.
I think America would need to get involved. but considering how old the tech is for the North Koreans, i even question how well the North Koreans could beat the South Koreans on their own.
Iraq in 1990 and 2003 had better tanks and better overall equipment than North Korea has, and it was shattered on both occasions. Especially in the first Gulf War when Iraq had a million man army.
The morale of the North Koreans, i'd argue is a lot worse then Iraqi's were.
I also strongly think China would stay OUT of a war between the North and South. There might be support from the old Communist guard within China who still have memories of the events from the first Korean War. but the China that existed in 1950's is vastly different from the China that exists in 2010. I think China's at most gonna voice condemnation or restraint between the combatants.
China may have the military strength to assist North Korea, and it is currently the second largest economy in the world. but China has a lot more to lose if it gets involved militarily. It's #1 trading partner is the United States, and China needs the US same as the US needs China for goods.
I think it boils down to 3 things
1. Assure the Chinese somehow to keep the North korean refugees from flooding into it's borders.
2. The North Korean artillary bombardment of South Korea's cities.
3. Does North Korea have a reliable way to launch a nuclear weapon tipped missile? All i remember them testing was an underground test, so do they even have the capability?
All the war guarantees is what helped bring down the British empire.
The US should not get involved directly in the war beyond logistics.
Sadly, in this case, hard lefties and neocons are united and will joyfully work together to send thousands of young American men and women to their deaths.....
If China gets involved that would be a bad situation, because many of our cheap goods are manufactured in Asia notably china. So if we oppose china we mightlose all of those cheap Chinese goods. The average American can't afford American made and the rest are just toofrugal to buy American made.
Our involvement will likely be Naval, Aerial, and materialsupport of the ROK. Domestically there isn't any stomach for any ground war engagements, so you won't see many Marines or Soldiers with boots on the ground.
[QUOTE="Harisemo"][QUOTE="funsohng"]You guys should, I really don't want my country fighting North Korea alone :PfunsohngNK will be fighting alone so why not SK? well then we will hate USA so much to the point we might league with China I'm not sure if Americans know this, but Korean generally don't like Americans that much. But then again, Koreans are very xenophobic and their politicians are hypocrites. Cant you fight your own wars, what does the US have to do with it? And why do you guys hate everybody?

I think we should let Japan and Norway take the lead. I just have a feeling they're ready to take the reins and mete out destruction. Norway's been itching to crush someone since the vikings went out of style. The people there are so warlike.

North Korea needs to be destroyed. PERIOD.Osaka-06
Yeah , pretty much. A couple of heavy precision air bombardments will do the trick. Plus , the AF can take out all or most of that little nut jobs nuclear program.
Found this interesting--- North Korea has 2 artillery corps and 30 artillery brigades equipped with 120mm self-propelled guns, 152mm self-propelled mortars, 170mm guns with a range of 50 km, 240 mm multiple rocket launchers with a range of 45 km, and other heavy guns. North Korea has about 18,000 heavy guns. North Korea's 170mm Goksan gun and 240mm multiple-tube rocket launchers are the most powerful guns of the world. These guns can lob shells as far south as Suwon miles beyond Seoul. The big guns are hidden in caves. Many of them are mounted on rails and can fire in all directions. They can rain 500,000 conventional and biochemical shells per hour on US troops near the DMZ. The US army bases at Yijong-bu, Paju, Yon-chun, Munsan, Ding-gu-chun, and Pochun will be obliterated in a matter of hours. The US army in Korea is equipped with Paladin anti-artillery guns that can trace enemy shells back to the guns and fire shells at the enemy guns with pin-point accuracy. However, it takes for the Paladins about 10 min to locate the enemy guns, during which time the Paladins would be targeted by the enemy guns Gen. Thomas A Schwartz, a former US army commander in Korea, stated that the US army in Korea would be destroyed in less than three hoursEmpCom
WWIII will be interesting then, as brief as it will be.

I again wonder why we have wasted trillions on "defense" and weapons if our troops can get dominated by starving men weilding barely functioning 1950's equipment.

A pre-emptive airstrike could render all of their artillery obsolete.

It would, but you probably don't want to do that to someone who has nukes and who's enemy's capital is pretty close to their border.

They have a handful of nukes which are easily destroyable before hitting US soil. They want to nuke themselves then so be it, makes the job easier. Please Log In to post.
