The US and Canada share many similarities including an enormous border. The majority of the canadian population lives within 100 miles of the US border. While we have more right wing nuts, generally, there's not a huge culture shock between the two countries. It's not too hard for a canadian to move and adapt to the US and vice versa. So of course the two countries will share a more significant bond than the US and Mexico which have very different make ups and cultures.

Canada is part of NATO which Mexico is not, that is a pretty big factor there. Not to mention the security and stability of Canada is much more in the interest of United States than Mexico.

You are outraged based on a purely hypothetical situation? If an invasion-prone power were setting up in Mexico, I don't think that the USA would shrug and say "Oh well"

Um, the US would be pretty worried of somebody attacked Mexico, seeing as there would be some invasion-prone power RIGHT BELOW THEM.

Plus, where the hell would families go for cruises after they'd already been to the Bahamas?

I'd imagine it's already going to be pretty dead with all the crime, fighting, and kidnapping going on right now. Needing a passport to get back into the US is going to halt some people's desire to vacation there also. :P

Actually its not that unreasonable. Canada is often refered to as the US resource satellite. Because of the unique behavioral characteristics of the canadian public, it makes it very easy for the US to get more for less.

No matter how incompetent the US maybe in war and education, when it comes to securing its energy needs they do an extremely good job.

you have abundant natural resources, equal to the US and that will always make Canada a possible target. Fortunately for Canada, the US will go to war on its behalf, just like they did for Saudi Arabia.

While America and Canada share a lot more culturally than America and Mexico, there is no doubt America would rain down bombs on anyone who would attack mexico. Hell, we have defended more distant unrelated countries than that.

That doesn't mean we have enemies. No country would go to war against us for some resources, too many countries would have our backs. And Canada is mainly known to be peacekeepers and do tons of international aid.

Dude you are sadly mistaken. You say that theUS is incompetent in War and Education? That's laughably wrong. Sure there are bad apples throughout the country, but the VASTLY OVERWHEMLINGmajority of Americans prove you wrong.

Not just that, but the US and Canada have a pretty "special relationship". Just like the US and UK. These countries have many deep bonds and the public would not react well to an attack on any of them.

Didn't I just explain it in the quoted post? The are a lost cause at this point in terms of their current internal struggles. That doesn't change what that they would need to be defended from an attack.

It may be a dark thought, but if Mexico got attacked...could it cure some of the internal struggles (drugs, corruption) before whoever decided to save them saved them? Sort of like having a common enemy unifies them so on so forth?

Carter only oversaw a split of the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare, which separated into the Department of Education and the Department of Health and Services.
