My thoughts exactly. I'd have no problem with that.It would just be a second thanksgiving then...

But with a tree....right?LJS9502_basicNot really. We stopped putting up a big tree years ago. Now we just have one of the mini ones. I honestly don't care about christmas anymore.
I wish there were no gifts. People waste money buying crap for me that I don't want, which means I have to waste money (and more importantly, time) buying crap for people that they don't want.
You know who knows what I like? That would be me.

Exactly. The only gifts that I like anymore are money or gift cards. Even if I tell someone exactly what I want they will find some way to f*** it up.
And with friends its stupid to buy gifts because I'll just say "I'll spend $50 on you", so we each buy theo ther something that is $50 that neither of us really wanted, and we could have saved the $50 to buy something else for ourselves
don't celebrate Christmas - at least not as a Christian. I have exchanged gifts and celebrated it when invited to be with family or friends. Good times :)
I do very much enjoy the holiday spirit atmosphere that Christmas has.
But most years Christmas to me is "The Day Everything is Closed" :P
If the gift giving part was not in it, it wouldn't change anything for me.
Now if you were talking about Eid Al-Fitr, where in my extended and immediate family treat it with gift exchanging, and you took away the gifts. I would probably care less about the holiday.
Christmas is a sham and giving gifts is a shame. I'll buy stuff for my family and take them out for a nice meal, but it's because of the goodness of my heart, not some fake crappy holiday created to sell crap to sheeple.
Yes I would, I love the atmosphere of it all. Plus I don't even get presents on christmas, just little things like pens and a lot of chocolate
There are many things from which I might have derived good, by which I have not profited, I dare say, Christmas among the rest. But I am sure I have always thought of Christmas time, when it has come round - apart from the veneration due to its sacred name and origin, if anything belonging to it can be apart from that - as a good time: a kind, forgiving, charitable, pleasant time: the only time I know of, in the long calendar of the year, when men and women seem by one consent to open their shut-up hearts freely, and to think of people below them as if they really were fellow-passengers to the grave, and not another race of creatures bound on other journeys. And therefore, uncle, though it has never put a scrap of gold or silver in my pocket, I believe that it has done me good, and will do me good; and I say, God bless it! - A Christmas Carol
AMEN + 10!
christmas has first and foremost for me always been about visiting with family who i dont see very often and having a good time, the presents are nice and all but ive never had a christmas where the higlight of it was a present, it has always been the time i spent with my family which was the highlight for me
My family and I don't give gifts anymore around Christmas. We haven't for around 5 yrs now. We enjoy the holidays more now, cause we're not running around trying to find that special gift or that best deal on anything. Making the holidays stress free so you can enjoy company more.
As others have said, the gifts are really a very small part of the Christmas experience for my family.
But on the topic of Christmas time gifts, I'll say that it is the perfect time of year to give a little something to people that we appreciate. In my case, my town has a terrific Sanitation Department (no, they are more than just garbage-men). So, even though there really isn't anything stopping me from giving the guys a little token of appreciation at any point throughout the year, Christmas time just seems to make sense. Same for the mailman and the broads over at our Veterinarian's office.
Not religious, so no. I want to get a job so I quit feeling like a butthole for not getting anyone else anything...
Its more then about gifts of course, its about being with your family, relaxing from work (hopefully), and celebrating the birth of Jesus (if you are big on being a Christian).
Of course I think now its more the first two since everyone always mentions how it was a Pagan holiday before adopted by the Christians for the birth of Jesus, despite evidence that his birth was closer to April. Still, I think it means a great time to relax and be with friends and family, regardless of any religious connotation (though I wish I knew for sure what Jesus' birthday was, so I wouldn't have to say "happy birthday Jesus" every arbor day as a compromise).
I'm not even religious, I just like saying happy birthday to people. On Halloween I say "happy birthday Satan!"
I also think that December in general and the winter holidays are all about being with family. Hanukkah has the same goal, but also for Jewish people.
Yes! Besides for us folks who didn't scrounge food from Native Americans back in day Christmas is THE time for family and friends, food, lots of alcohol and a nice ol' stretch of time away from work. It would make my day to just not have to buy crape no one wanted in the first plays. Also to not get crape i never will use. That is what this haoladay has become a giant money sink. if there under the age of16 then i have no problem getting them somthing. But as an adult I need nothing and if i want it i will go to the dam store my self and get it.I got junk i will never use as gifts.Wast of time and money for person buying. DO NOT GET ME STARTEDON MONEY AS GIFTS NOW THAT IS JUST STUPIDthey give you a $100 then you give them money $100 or less What is the point in that.
