Here's why god is not all powerful.

If god could create another god more powerful than himself, then the new god would have attributes that the original god didn't have, which means he obviously wasn't capable of everything to begin with.

And if it's impossible for god to create anything greater than himself, since he already is the utmost in power, then obviously god has limitations that he can not overcome - this would mean that there is at least one thing that god is not capable of, which effectively destroys the claim that he is all-powerful and capable of ANYTHING.

And if god has at least one limitation that is visible to us, this leads me to think how many more limitations could be laying right beneath our eyes that we haven't even picked up on yet. But if god even has one flaw - just one - that's enough to make him imperfect and like humans in the way that he has a handicap that is not possible to overcome. Which raises the question -

Why worship him in the first place? Can you not tell that if we can find a flaw in the description of a supposedly perfect god, that it makes it obvious that this god was created by mankind? Only mankind could create something that would be flawed, according to the very definition of god that I've recieved from christians themselves. And if we're able to realize that god was invented by mankind - as a result of discovering a flaw within the definition of god, does this not disprove god from existing at all?

At the seething and fiery center
He sits upon his ebon throne
Within his halls of darkness
Which no man has seen and survived the vision

Both blind and bereft of mind
He pipes unceasingly on his reed flute
And the notes that rise and fall in measured patterns
Are the foundations of all the worlds
Ever calculating in sound the structure of space and time

Were his flute ever to suddenly fall silent
All the spheres would shatter into one another
And the myriads of worlds
Would be unmade
As they were before creation

The flute of the blind idiot
Both makes and unmakes the worlds in ceaseless
Combinations
Spinning on the woven carpet of time

No creation without destruction
No destruction without creation

To unmake a thing is to make another
Each time a thing is made
Another is destroyed

The idiot god on his black throne
Does not choose
What shall rise into being
And what should pass away
He cares only to maintain
His mindless unholy music of
Random creation and destruction

No living creature can look upon his face
And endure its terrible heat
And black radiance
That is like the reverberating unseen rays of molten iron
Which strike and burn the skin
Of those who would dare
Gaze into the countenance of the idiot god

Never does he receive supplicants
In his black halls of uncouth angles and strange doors
Nor does he ever hear prayers or answer them
Endlessly he pipes
And endlessly he devours his own substance
For his hunger is insatiable
As he consumes his own wastes after the custom of idiots

As the god creates
So he destroys

I don't think the created can surpass the creator. If I "created" a chair, even if people could sit on it to rest or stand on it to reach higher places, that doesn't make the chair better than me.

Did I say anything about saving anyone? And how are you the expert on how life works, whereas I am not? (As you apparently suggested.)

I don't get why people try to change others point of view.

You're only going to get an argument. There are at least three of the these made a week. If you don't beleve in god just let everybody else beleve. ( same thing goes for people trying to make people beleve in god.)8)

Because it failed to create any discussion in 20 posts. Usually religious threads start right off the bat. It'll probably change later though.

Well I would contribute to a discussion here, but seeing as I've seen pretty much this exact same thread made twice in the past couple months I think it would be a waste.

God murdered in the old testament. Is murder not a sin? Not to mention he demands that we don't kill even though he does it. Hypocracy is a weakness that should not be displayed by a deity.

How about "Thou shalt not covet"? Does god not covet? He covets us. He wants everyone to choose him over Satan, and gets angry and jealous when things go otherwise. Seems like god broke his own commandments, and breaking commandments is apparently a sin.

Can you show me where he supposedly murdered? Also, god does not covet us. He has complete control over anything that happens. This is going to be hard to explain since you are so close-minded about this whole subject.

The point is that theists could care less about independent thought or empirical evidence.Just leave them to enjoy their delusion, until one actually challenges you to a debate then you can decide to engage.Which would be pointless because the theist wont care anyway. They prefer ignorant bliss.

Murder, much? EDIT: And, don't say that a sinner should be murdered. Just because I stole five cents from a shop (stealing=sin,) does that mean I should be given the firing squad?

That's a dare you shouldn't have taken. Anyone who doesn't like religion threads should avoid them. Correct? What do you do when a show comes on you don't like? Change the channel. Crappy song on the radio? Change the station.

People hate religion threads and then post in them to bump them to the top? Talk about "epic fail", dare I say...

Also, god does not covet us. He has complete control over anything that happens. This is going to be hard to explain since you are so close-minded about this whole subject.el_carl

So we have no free will?

Yeah, check the first post.

Maybe it would be a good point if not for the fact that it's been brought up multiple times within the last month.

The point is that theists could care less about independent thought or empirical evidence.Just leave them to enjoy their delusion, until one actually challenges you to a debate then you can decide to engage.Which would be pointless because the theist wont care anyway. They prefer ignorant bliss.

Just because someone beleve in something you don't makes them ignorant?

Meh, I could care less how they think, so long as the majority of them don't go all Jesus Camp on us.

We do. The very fact that you chose not to believe in God is an exercise of YOUR free will.
