Who the hell had such originality and imagination to create the Bible? [QUOTE/] man created that. and i never followed the bible when i was a christian. because i believed it was extremely deluded how can you expect something thats possibly thousands of years old to stay the same with out people just changing something here and there and adding in their own ideas. alot of christians made many rules isnt the bible supposed to be their rulebook? now what i dont understand about most people is why cant they just follow their own path and not look for the next voice thats going to "lead them to salvation" ?

Homer wrote the Iliad and the Odyssey. Dante wrote his Divina Comedia. Virgil wrote his Georgics, Bucolics and The Aeneid. Plato wrote his Republic. Aristotle his Poetics, etc. The Hindus their Baghavad Gita. The Buddhists their suttas. The Muslims their Qu'ran.

Humans are geniuses. We created so many outstanding works of literature over the course of only several thousand years. Obviously if God created the Bible, it would be exactly the same for every religion on the planet and perfect in every way. But like most human works, it is imperfect and not part of every religion.

God didn't create the bible. Man did, but this doesnt mean it wasnt divinely inspired.

Homer was divinely inspired as well... as was practically every other poet/writer/musician at the time. The Muses do great work.

I'm sure if I took a few hits of Acid, I could write some crazy stuff too. "Ok so Moses sees this bush right? AND ITS ON FIRE! The Fire Bush speaks to him and is all like,'Dude, I'm God..'" Wooooord...

No, the Muses. The goddesses who inspire the creative arts among men. The exact same divine inspiration that wrote the Bible... but the name was changed from the Muses to God.

I don't see how anyone can know that anyone else was divinely inspired.gobo212

Otherwise religion could otherwise be disproved. I got nothing if someone says they've felt presence inside them.

Yay for religion threads :)

The only thing that tells you that the bible was divinely inspired is written with in the bible itself. Is there any other outside sources that tell you the same thing?

Sorry but the bible does not convince me of gods existance. Its just a book. A good book, some of the best fantasy stories ever written are within the bible I think it should go right in the same section with Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.

The human imagination is more than capable of writing a book to the quality of the Bible, just look at the crazy crap that Tolkien and Homer came up with.

Sorry but I have to agree with him. I thought The Odyssey was required reading in high school. It certainly was when I went. If you want a plot summary just look it up on Wikipedia. It's one of the most famous stories in history.

I have heard of it, but not fully. I did study about Homer for a while and his some of his works, but i don't think we read them or went into to much depth about them.

Im sure iv'e heard about it somewhere, but i just don't remember it fully.

I feel bad for you 123625.You cant even come up with a convincing argument against atheism. Its as if your completely 100% brainwashed.

You question strange comments like the one about books that are more creative than the bible. Its as if you havent read any other literature.Asking about the Odyssey?Have you even gotten into highschool?

Cause if not, than that says alot about your minds capability of understanding complex ideas and theories like evolution.Especially when its so poorly taught in schools.

It's a "sequel" to Homer's earlier work the Iliad (which is also incredibly creative and older than the bible). Basically it's about Odysseus, a great king and a hero of the Trojan war, and his quest to return home to the island of Ithaca. The gods bugger him around and he spends 10 years sailing around with his crew encountering monsters, witches, cyclopes and all kinds of fantastical things. Finally he gets home having lost all of his crew and then slaughters all of the men who have been courting his wife and his wealth for the twenty years he has been absent.

It's a seriously good story and it's equal to or greater than the Bible in it's scope, poetry and imagination. Bottom line is the Bible is not an impossibly creative book.

Okay thanks, i do remember mainly what its about and some things. Do they meet these siren thingies? and get turned into pigs at some point? If not ive got mixed up with the wrong story.

And i'll admit the Bible is not an impossibly creative book. But no denying that the first two books of the bible are incredibly creative all by themselves and the other books as well. Like Job and others.

Please take note that im not saying i think they are fiction or something else.

Yup the Odyssey is the one with the sirens and Circe turning the men into pigs.

And yes the Bible is an amazing piece of work but not a compelling evidence for God like the TC may think. The Bible and it's creativity is consistent with both theism and atheism so really this is a moot point.

[QUOTE="krazykillaz"]I've seen more creative and fantastical books.domatron23

Examples?

The Odyssey

I've heard of it but don't know what its about summary?

Where does the idea that the bible is divinely inspired come from?

5000 years, really?

I think that the thematic coincidences in the Bible between the different writers is an interesting point though, are there any inconsistancies between the books or does it all gel together pretty well.

According to Christians, all the little descrepancies that atheists claim invalidate the Bible can be fully accounted for.

Oh come the hell on! Are you trying to tell me that as creative as man has been since it first started evolving that no one, let alone of a collective of men, are creative enough to write the Bible?
