[QUOTE="UprootedDreamer"]If I loan someone money I write up a contract for it if it is for 50 dollars or more so that I can take them to court if they don't pay me back. UniverseIX
I'd tell the judge that you forged the contract and are trying to extort money out of me.

I have that covered, I would get two witnesses to sign it as well so you couldn't get out it of it as easily as that.

Nobody owes me money for this exact reason. Let this be a $40 learning experience.

Never lend money you can't afford to lose, because there is a good chance you probably won't get it back. Remind the guy about it again and if that doesn't work forget about it and move on because you aren't ever going to get paid.

I'd suggest that you corner him when you know he has money.

40 bucks in not a whole lot and it's the kind of amount that I usually gift, but I sympathize with you. I'd be pissed at the guy simply on principle. I can't stand people who don't stick by their word.

Cut your losses and hope Karma and the Universe balance things out.

[QUOTE="needled24-7"]

what should i do about this situation?

MrGeezer

You should let the money go, and take this as a lesson earned.

Never let someone borrow money unless you're okay with never getting it back.

I think it's fine to expect the money back.

I think people should put their loan agreements in writing. That way, they have recourse.

I don't put loans I give out in writing, but that's because I only loan large amounts to close family.

I'd say just forget about it. Just make sure you don't loan money to him again.

I really do wish people would stop misusing the term "karma" and learn what it actually means, but we're probably a few decades of bastardized usage too late for that. Oh well.

sounds like a $40 lesson learned. Don't lend money to people if it's going to hurt you financially later.

Use this as a lesson to never lend money that you can't afford to not get back.

That's why I'd only let family members borrow money as long as I know the person will give it back to me.

I'd tell him a bit more seriously and strictly that you expect to be paid back, if that doesn't work I wouldn't really bother with it, Not much else you can do really. I have a rule though I'll lend up to $10, more than that you're on your own buddy

that amount of money, I tend to think your just giving it, i don't expect it back.

large sums of money, if i found myself in a situation to loan it, i'll get a contract or whatever to make sure i'm getting it back.
