What does it mean? I work 8 hours a day and I honestly feel that its a waste to only work 40 hours a week. I'm trying to work from 9 to 8.
What do you think of such people? People call them geeks, nerds,...etc. I call them ambitious.

[QUOTE="xaos"]Didn't you just start working like 5 minutes ago? I daresay your ardor will fade with timeGazaAliman this is cold . But seriously, how many hours a day do you work? And you might be right. Anywhere from 4-12, depending how much work is in front of me, when my deadlines are, and how motivated I feel
8 hours? I am at the office from 7:30am till 4:45pm with no lunch break (my choosing) -but I only 'work' about 3 hours a dayrawsavonlol thats not far from what i do now.
The job I'm getting my hours are 6pm-7am, crappy hours but I start out at $15 an hour, after 8 hours is considered overtime and I'll be getting $22 an hour after that. Yup I'll be making bank :P.
When I lived in London I was doing 70 hr weeks on a semi-regular, you'll burn out FAST.blue_hazy_basicI want to work 55 hours a week.
I'd give anything to work a 40 hour week atm, they our 'full time' hours back to 35 last year, and there's rumors they'll be cutting back again to 30 now *sigh*
I don't begrudge anyone who wants to work overtime, more hours = more monies, simple as that.
30 hours a week? that's a joke :(I'd give anything to work a 40 hour week atm, they our 'full time' hours back to 35 last year, and there's rumors they'll be cutting back again to 30 now *sigh*

I'll be working 70-86 hours :/
Hopefully they will let me work around 60 hours.

Are you hourly or salaried?Salaray often means no over time pay. This sucks big time, and I know from experience. Last year I worked 10+ hour days for over a month straight to finish a major project. Did I see any extra on my paycheck? No, and the only bonus I got that year was an i-pad for Christmas. It was a nice gift, but as a home owner with an 11 year old POS car I would rather have the money.I'd give anything to work a 40 hour week atm, they our 'full time' hours back to 35 last year, and there's rumors they'll be cutting back again to 30 now *sigh*

[QUOTE="rawsavon"] Are you hourly or salaried?MissLibrarianThey changed my contract to hourly about 2 years ago. So that they could weasel out of benefits? :(
my last job had me working 50ish hours a week on top of being on call. let me tell you theres nothing as awesome as going home to work, waking up right after you went to sleep, doing work, driving to the office, boxing up stuff and waiting for a courier to pick it up then driving home, trying to go back to sleep (assuming no one else calls, in which case you might as well grab a red bull and forget about sleep for 20 more hours) then waking up a couple hours later and going back to work.
you wanna work a ridiculous amount of hours? i hope you REALLY love your job because mine gave me an ulcer.

Been working 50+ hours a week for the past 7 years. At first it's not so bad, but eventually you realize how much it sucks and loath going to work. At least I do.
What's the point of more money if you have less time to enjoy it?Memberino
At the rate the economy is, more money = less stress :P
Yeah it sucks having 2-3 hours at the most of free time a day it really doesn't bother me since I'll be playing on a laptop/DS in my pickup during my shift :D.
So that they could weasel out of benefits? :(xaosPossibly, but the UK system is different, we don't really get 'benefits' per se. I do still earn towards my pension at least.
...sorry to hear that, must be tough atmrawsavonMeh, it's not so bad. At least I still have a job.
everyone is different. some count the minutes until 5 and will not work a second past.. some people define themselves by their jobs and you have to pull them away from it it get their time.. if you're hourly you might not be permitted to work extra time by your employer because they do not want to pay the ot. if you're salaried they'll take as much work out of you as they can get but be sure that long hours != success, promotions, raises etc.. comp_atkinsthe funny part is, I'm salaried and they won't let me work overtime.
Don't work more, i've done it. It the end you'll be a lot worse . Off course a modest ten hours a week won't kill ya but more will almost anyway. I worked three years average of 12 hours a day and sometimes weekends. You can say an average workweek of 65 hours. It was a stressfull job too so it depends if it's a very easy job i can be doable or if you can take a lot of stress. I could take a lot of stress till suddenly lightning strikes, nervous breakdown, depression, alienation, ...
Simply put , you'll go crazy, every man has his own treshold off course but i think there's a reason why a workweek is 40 hours. I'm a lot better now but i haven't worked for a year, i won't say i lost money with it because when you have a nervous breakdown you don't spend any money. Anyway your health is more important, i know it's sounds cheesy but pushin the limit on your long term endurance is dangerous. Short time, that's not that bad you can recuperate and you see results fast, if your long term endurance is gone, recuperation is also long term. And you'll be lucky if you come out of it without any scars, with me it's still remains to be seen. If you suddenly want to feel like an eighty year old, go ahead.

GazaAlithe funny part is, I'm salaried and they won't let me work overtime. yeah that's weird. i can't imaging an employer not wanting free labor.. or at least cheaper labor because the more you end up working the less / hour they're actually paying you :)
There are some issues with OT and salary rates and so forth (I've never been in a professional position where I had to deal with it) that make companies uncomfortable with people working more than 8 hours a day or 40 a week. Another big thing is that it is illegal in America to work more than 12 hours. You could become exhausted and driving exhausted is like driving drunk or high. If you work 16 hours and get in a wreck, the company you work for can be held accountable for creating your diminished state and be sued by the other drive. If it was your choice to work that long, it's a pretty safe bet they'll can your arse for causing the company that kind of trouble (and breaking the law).
well I don't think poorly of them or anything, but you better make sure it's okay with your employer that you are constantly getting overtime.
