I just got an extra 5cents after buying a chocolate bar today, but I didn't tell the cashier. Would you inform the cashier if they gave you extra money (any amount?)

If I noticed right there at the register, yeah probably. If I had already left the register, now way I'm walking back to lose money. :P

As a boy, I once went back into the shop saying he had given me too much change. Really stupid I was.

I usually don't count my coins, I just stuff them in my wallet. So I wouldn't know if I recieved extra change or not.

Yes, just because I do not usually realize it. If I do it is usually when I get back home.

It happened to me once and I returned the money. I think it was 50 cents, and I had already left the store so I walked quite a bit to return the money.

If it's a trivial amount, probably not. If the cashier made a big mistake, I'd likely tell him so. Then run off with the money before he catches me.

If it was only change, I probably wouldn't say anything (I probably wouldn't realize it either 'cause I don't count the change when I get it back), but if it was dollar bills, I'd give back the extra amount. Only happened to me once, so I gave it back. It was at the same store I work at also.

Always. That gets docked out of their pay, so I don't see how its fair for me to keep it.

Unless they were being a complete prick about everything.

At the grocery store I work at, if our tills come up short, it doesn't get taken out of our paycheck or anything. I've never even had a manager talk to me about it, and I know for sure that there have been times when my till has come up short. Besides, they can't really pin it on one person, because usually more than one person uses a till before they change it.

Yes I always do because I don't usually count it until after I've walked away. If they short me on change then I would go back and confront the cashier.

If it's a large multi-million dollar corporation chain store, yes I would keep it. If it's a small mom-and-pop type of store, I would return it.

Depends on how much it is. If it's just a few cents, I'll probably just keep it. But if they gave me a few dollars extra I'd return it.

Why not? Their mistake, my gain. And I don't really ever count my change. I just stuff it in my pocket and leave. Plus, I also rarely if ever use cash to buy things. Its always credit or debit.

I don't keep it. I'm a cashier, and if I'm any amount short it comes out of my pocket, same as everyone else.

Please return your change if its wrong

fmacraze

They have given me back extra money, and I didn't keep it. It's not mine, it would be wrong for me to take it.

Now, that's not to say that I always count my change to the penny. If it's only a few cents off, I'll keep it simply because I do not know that the cashier gave me too much money. But if I DO know that I was given too much back, I always give back the change. Because it's not mine.

They go broke when they make greedy moves that don't pay off. It's not my problem, and having a few cents back isn't going to save them. Independent stores operate differently. They don't look for ways to swallow the competition, and end up being destroyed by their own greed. They need every penny they can get to stay afloat. Plus, those kind of stores usually have charm, and even sometimes certain products that the chains don't. I don't mind looking out for the well-being of a unique merchant.

I don't ever count my change.

Even if I noticed, I really doubt that I'd give it back. Some dude not being able to count isn't really my problem. And if his pay gets docked because of it, then he kinda deserved it.

If a bank accidentally types an extra 0 and puts $1000 into your account instead of $100, do you think it'll stand up in court when you sue them for turning that $1000 back into $100?

No I try to run away with extra. I'm serious...
