What would it be? I'd make myself rich, because I think it's a problem that I'm not.

You're wishing...

Well the problem that I'll solve is to make ALL the people around the world, believe that there is a God who created and loved us, even sacrificing His Son to save us mankind.

Set a cap on how much everybody can make a year so that like 2% of the country doesn't hold more wealth combined then the 98% combined.

You have the chance to fix any problem in the world and you're going to choose to shoot an innocent kid in the head because you don't like his music?

I know yeah, that's just mean and unnecassary.

[QUOTE="ferrari2001"] Not necessarily. A world without currency would be great. We work for different reason, or simply for the sake of working. However there is nothing else to currently motivate us except currency. If only our world was like Star Trek where they are motivated by science and exploration. ferrari2001

We are far less of an intelligent and free thinking species than we give ourselves credit for if we can't even find something other than pieces of paper to motivate us to work for a better world. Can't helping others, bettering ourselves, and our world be the motivation we need? Obviously not is the correct answer in our current society, but I can hope for a future like that. Star Trek has created the ideas and put them out there, and one day maybe we will achieve that which would be absolutely amazing.

It would take a huge earth changing event for things to turn around though. And yet again Gene Rodenberry even thought that through and even talks about that in Star Trek. I'm now convinced Star Trek is more than just a sci-fi television show. Gene was a genius. People should listen to him.

Star Trek was a true vision of what humanity is capable of achieving if we could just move past this dark infancy we've been in since the beginning. I think it would take something world changing such as first contact with another species to really make our planet realize we are all the same really and this little blue orb is all our home. Making peaceful contact with another species would unite the planet in ways we probably can't even imagine now.

I concur with the posts above me. What we need is Vulcans. Only then can we get closer to the world depicted in Star Trek, which is by no means a utopian world, but one worth pursuing nevertheless.

It was close, no Crime, no Disease, no Poverty. It would definitely be a world worth pursuing.

[QUOTE="ferrari2001"][QUOTE="mr_poodles123"] That sounds like communism...MystikFollower

Not necessarily. A world without currency would be great. We work for different reason, or simply for the sake of working. However there is nothing else to currently motivate us except currency. If only our world was like Star Trek where they are motivated by science and exploration.

That is what really made me decide I wanted a world such as that. It wouldn't be communism if nobody had money and nobody had the motive to make money. Like you said, we would work to better ourselves and our world, with that being the motivation, rather than trying to accumulate wealth for yourself. I just want to see the divide torn down between the TINY fraction of the world's population that has a majority of the world's wealth and whose only motive is to keep what they have and get more and the rest of us who work our asses off to make just enough to get by on. The world would be a much better place without currency or profit motive.

How can you say it would be better to have no incentive. Do you really think that everyone would work because they feel like it? Do you really think that everyone would do their part because its the right thing? No that is communism. You would have to brainwash people to even get some of them to think that. Look at North Korea's standard of living. That is what the whole world would be like.

Good strawman, he said if there were no money or profit motive (which presupposes a monetary system.) He doesn't advocate getting rid of incentives in general. Money isn't the only incentive. Humans aren't total retards. If society wouldn't function without the cooperative input of most of the members, then the members would probably work to keep society turning. Then you'd have people working for the admiration, self-satisfaction and sense of purpose that many of us would probably long for without anything to work on. Plus yeah, many of us like food, water, electronics, computers and all sorts of wonderful stuff and if that can't be achieved through money, I'm willing to wager people would do the hard communal work for access to such things. Also, you don't know what the world would be like if there was no monetary system. I don't either. So yeah, I wouldn't make comparisons just yet.

I'm gonna be honest, I'd probably use such a gift for personal gain for two reasons: #1 No one would know the difference, and #2 because you'd never know the repercussions of fixing a global problem.

Scenario 1: Let's say we end world hunger. This could lead to overpopulation in areas that were starving, and thus the cycle begins anew. Congratulations. You've solved nothing.

Scenario 2: End disease. First off, in the places that are already starving because you didn't "end world hunger", their population is going to suffer even more, because now you have diseaseless people outliving their life expectancies and eating up all the food. More people are now dying. Way to go, hero.
