If everyone who worked and was able to give 10 dollars to the poor every week, think about all we could overcome. thats over 500 million people donating ten dollars,  think of all the lives we could save. Think about it. Then realize were to greedy to give that money, then realize how lazy we are to go give that money, then realize your life isnt really worht living now is it?

Yeah but then they would be rich with their 10 dollars every week, and we would be the poor ones.

Yeah but you have to wonder who the poor are, do they really exist or are they made up characters in a play?

Well i see how your thinking is going. But there are some people that choose to live that way. I knew a homeless guy that made over 100 dollars a day from recycling/panhadnling. He made enough to get a real job, life etc... but he liked living that way.

I know what you guys mean by that, but lets just say once, just once, we gave 100 dollars each, the whole able world, think about what we could accomplish with just 100 dollars.

If the goverment knew everyone was giving 10 dollars to the poor every week, they would probably increase tax, or the average wage bill would decrease.....

Yes even though it can tally up to a huge amount of cash, think about how many poor people are in this world...but seriously I don't know what your theory is so I don't know.

Interesting point. Maybe there are no rich people either.. or maybe there is one poor person who has nothing and one rich person with a top hat and a mustache and the rest of us are characters in the play.

*most intelligent post of the day*

do you honestly think the majority of people who are poor want to be poor? Most have no choice and actually work multiple jobs with far longer hours than the middle and upper class so calling them lazy is pure bs.

Also, maplesyrup (mmm) is thinking of the poor in terms of the local welfare claiming people who live in 3-room apartments with 'only' one TV and crappy curtains. I suggest taking a broader perspective and seeing the people around the world that have literally nothing and who would jump on any opportunity to work and earn money, or even simply educating themselves.

You can't expect the minimum wage to be $50 an hour either, can you? It's called minimum wage for a reason, and if you ask me (and any other economist), raising it is certainly not the answer.

no one is saying make it $50 and hour.. but when basic costs of food, shelter, and medical care rise significantly faster than minimum wage, the people working those jobs are going to be in trouble.
