If you were rich and the government in your country proposes a tax increase for the rich, would you support it? I probably wouldn't.

Yes I would. I wouldn't think the rich should pay the same simply because I am one of them

I am rich and I am fine with with an increase at times when society as a whole really could benefit. Of course, I expect it any increase to be reasonable and preferrably temporary.

I also think gov't needs to be more responsible with spending so that they don't need to raid my piggybank.

No. I don't support a tax increase for anybody. All the government is doing is wanting the people to pay for all the money they waste. Higher taxes will never fix the problem.

depends how much I make but I probably wouldn't be the person who hunts down the loopholes meaning I would be paying quite a bit in taxes so I probably wouldn't want any more.

I am against the government wasting money. If they were transparent about how they spend it and use it effectively I have nothing against raising taxes when required.

Not to mention there has already been billionaires who gave up their US Citizenship because of taxes. Keep raising their taxes and it only gets worse.

This along with what the current and proposed tax rate would be. Honestly though I had a montly salary on about 100K nok kr I would be getting around 65K after taxes in Norway I believe. Might be lower, but I really doubt it would be higher unless I have a lot of debt. If I had to pay another few K in taxes I wouldn't mind it. Not when I am earning that much. Rouhgly translated into dollars this becomes 100K=17K $, 65K=11500$...

I am against tax increases on people no matter what their income is.

What I don't believe in is tax breaks and ways to dodge taxes. Paying your fair share means paying your fair share. Then everybody can have lower tax rates overall.

TC's post would be enhanced by defining the threshold for "rich". President Obama defined it as "above $250K per year" during last year's election. If that's the threshold, and I was making that much, then I would ABSOLUTELY support a tax increase on myself.

For the US realistically taxes need to go up across the board... However if that is truly unfeasible then I'd be for just raising them in the rich as long as we don't also lower them for everyone else...

No.

I also do not support rampant government waste.

We need to curb govt spending and rewrite tax laws to remove the loopholes. This way, a flat tax across the board will scale properly according to income.

Amazing how many of you Dems in here are spouting off dumb redneck, gun-toting, religious fundamentalist, lulz Faux News talking points. Who would have thought that you'd be all for tax increases as long as you are exempt but then oppose it if you aren't. Oh, and also...I thought we had a revenue problem. What y'all put in your bong today to make you so enlightened?

Depends on the tax and whether I felt it was fair.  I dont mind the wealthy paying more in taxes, but I dont want a situation where the majority continuously votes for a minority of people to pay higher and higher taxes.

What would be the increase? If (hypothetically) I was one of the wealthy and had my income taxed at like 35% and it was hiked up to like 65%, no, not at all. If it was a modest hike and (assuming I was somewhat wealthy and had money in the bank already), then I would be more inclined. But I'm not wealthy and I'm more concerned about the BS tax breaks and tax evasion.

ya. i have some affinity with communist and socialist ideas, and i believe that it is the duty of every citizen to contribute to the well-being of society as a whole, not to just personal interests or specific individuals. human solidarity, brotherhood n sh!t like that

that said, i don't agree with taxing the rich a ridiculous amount like that recent french proposal; the rich should pay the same percentage per dollar as other classes do. and fvck all to tax loopholes.

Most of government spending is towards specific personal interest and individuals, though. Cut all of that sh*t and we do need tax increases.

the state of most western governments has greatly influenced my future career path because i want to be a part of something that i think can do a lot good. i wouldn't probably make much of a change alone, but i feel that a lot of youths who are heading for government jobs have similar sentiments to mine. one can only hope

Let's hope so. :} And I agree with you that taxes should be a lot simpler. I'm not educated on USA fiscal law personally (I'm an accountant in Europe) but it's obvious the tax code is needlessly complicated in most of the western world.

The rich are already paying a disproportionately high amount of their income to taxes. The real issue with taxation is that it is compulsory and therefore theft.

i've had excess and i've had excess taxed at an excessive rate because of the amount. i'm ok with that for anybody who banks a ridiculous amount of money and by comparison and even then what i've had is a laughable to some out there.

I just had my taxes done this weekend. I'm not rich but after seeing the size of the refund I'm getting, I wouldn't be angry at a slight tax increase. So if I were rich, I definitely wouldn't mind.
