How would roads be built without taxes?

They would still be built. It probably wouldn't be so well functioning though

You could really argue against them being functional in some areas, especially areas where the cost of living is through the roof.

[QUOTE="genfactor"]I just had my taxes done this weekend. I'm not rich but after seeing the size of the refund I'm getting, I wouldn't be angry at a slight tax increase. So if I were rich, I definitely wouldn't mind.

Ya you would, because your life style would change causing you to spend more money than you do now and then seeing how much more you pay in taxes would change your tune pretty quickly.

Yes, and if I didn't get my way that just means more money that I could put into undermining a society with such drastic wealth inequality.

If I were making that much income I don't know if I'd have anything better to do with it.

Well, I'm not rich, but I supported a raise in my tax rates just the same (ending the Bush era tax cuts as well as the payroll tax cut holiday). So, yes.

no, but I'd support an end to tax breaks for the rich, as well as limiting of certain deductions that aren't necessary for someone of greater meanslamprey263
So in other words you do support a tax increase for the rich.

Yes I would. There is only a certain amount of money you need in life. There are people without food and shelter everywhere in this country. If I was butt load rich I would have no problem giving back to the country that allowed me to get to where I am in life. We need to cut spending and increase taxes to get out of this debt. There is no way to pay it back unless we all pitch in, especially those who can damn well bloody afford to.

No, I don't think so. Not every rich person spends money on dancing horses, car elevators and private jets. There are some people who are "The millionair next door". I can't see myself spending obscene amounts of money on things I don't spend money on now except for lawyers and accountants.

I don't support it now so why would I support it if I were rich?

Depends on what the existing tax rates on the rich are.

Barbariser

Essentially this.  I really don't think extreme tax rates are at all fair, and in truth don't help the government as much as many think anyway.

Depends how rich.

Also this.  There's a huge difference between earning $750k/yr and $15 million/yr.

Yes. The rate for $1 million should be at least 50%. If you can't live off 500k a year then you got some problems.

Yes, I'm not denying that, but their lifestyles are going to be far different, and hypothetically taking 50% from someone making that and taking 50% from someone making $15 million should not be considered at all the same.

Some money in the bank for reserves is important...and money to live on...anything more is superfluous. Hell...I worked with a guy that said he had more money than he'd ever spend and yet he took a job away from people who needed it because he was bored and didn't want to pay for benefits.

I am against tax increases on people no matter what their income is.

What I don't believe in is tax breaks and ways to dodge taxes. Paying your fair share means paying your fair share. Then everybody can have lower tax rates overall.

Well, I can't comment on the guy you worked on, and I'm not some ultra-objectivist, far from it if you see my posting history, but in my mind it makes sense for those who earn significantly more to have a significantly higher standard of living, or at least have the option to.

Yes, I would.  If I was rich, it's highly likely that my wealth was generated by greater use of the country's social resources (educated and healthy workforce, roads, etc.), and I should thus shoulder a greater burden.

Do you think that it is possible for you to get rich by teaching music?
