Yes I would abort it, for many of the reason above, then I would have myself "fixed" so that that situation would never happen again. I would adopt after that.
If you want a child then why get yourself fixed?
I would try to have a child but if that child was a downer or some other disability then I wouldn't want to bring it into the world. I think abortion is wrong but think having a child that suffers for their whole life is worse. I wouldn't try again for a child because there would be a huge chance of that happening again. It would be extremely selfish of myself, I would be able to have a child still after that through adoption. Try once- Fail, second time- Adopt.
without any way of knowing for sure how sever the symptoms would be, i would probably say no. then i'd ask my baby mama what she thought. go from there.
I'm afraid of abortion supporters because killing babies sounds psycho to me
Technically it's not a baby yet
But it is going to become a baby?
Personally, I would not want to have an abortion unless it would threaten the life of my partner to have the child, or the child would be born with an incurable disease that would make it's life a living hell (where every day would be filled with pain and suffering with no potential for enjoyment of life).
Down's Syndrome is a manageable condition that only affects a person's ability to learn and communicate up to what is considered "normal" standards. They are still very nice people, can contribute to society in meaningful ways (they tend to often get involved in charity events around where I live in addition to working and living on their own) and most of all, have a unique view on life that makes the rest of us seem all depressed all the time. They find joy in the simplest of things, something most of us cannot do.
That said, there are many people with Down's that don't interact as well, or seem disconnected, and from my experience going through school with a classmate with it, it all comes down to how well the peer group accepts the person, and how much help they get with learning (patience is a very important aspect to both teach and communicate with someone with Down's).
Yep. I have absolutely no problem with abortions so it wouldn't bother me. As far as I'm concern, I'd be doing the kid a favor...
Pretty much.
Abortion would be my first choice of course. Now if she didn't want that then i would just disappear.Change my name, move cities all that.
I would be in favor of abortion for a number a reasons such as the difficulty and cost a raising a kid with Down syndrome. The hardship the kid would have to live with. The burden to society he/she would be and so on.
The problem with that answer though is these are the same arguments used by eugenicists. So where do you draw the line. Someone can easily use the same arguments and say poor people or blacks shouldn't reproduce either.
Yep, given a limited capacity to raise kids it makes sense to me to have another child capable of enjoying a decent quality of life and contributing to society in its place.
As im not a firm believer in the fetus = person, camp.
I'd abort any fetus that suffered from a serious defect or would pose a risk to the mother during childbirth.
If I were a woman and it was very certain then of course I would. Though even if it were to be healthy I most likely would abort any pregnancy unless I felt I was financially and emotionally ready to bring a child into this world.

That's disturbing.
I have a question of curiosity. If we could get everyone with downs and put them on a deserted island can they all survive with no help from normal people?

What would it be called? Down Land?
Yeah, I'd want an abortion. Not sure if I'd actually follow through with it but the thought would be at the forefront of my mind.
yes to protect it from being third grade citizen and me/my wife from being sad about it all our lifes
yes, also abort the parents and get them out of the gene pool before they try again.
maybe we could eat them or something so they don't go to waste.

lol
Yes, but I'd probably let the mother have the last say.
So kind of you.
~90% of fetuses known to have down syndrome are aborted in the West. Decades ago you'd probably see a lot more people with down syndrome.
I would want an abortion, personally, but it's up to the woman, of course. Raising children is a huge commitment. Raising children with down syndrome is a significantly higher one.
