A few quotes:

"Unfortunately, it feels as though visionary genre films don't have a place in our multiplexes anymore. I have no doubt, that films such as 2001: A Space Odyssey, El Topo, Suspiria, or any other wildly experimental film that wears the inspirations of its creator's interests on its sleeve, would be met with a resounding WTF from critics and audiences had they been released in the current cinematic landscape. "

"Viewers today are not as open-minded as they used to be. "

Personally I loved the movie and don't understand how some people hate it so much, but everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

So, does this change your mind about seeing the movie?

Thoughts?

yeah, IGN says a lot of things. >.> When a movie costs 11-12 dollars, (sometimes more), people start becoming a lot more conscious of going to see poorly reviewed movies. Personally, the trailers didnt seem that great.

.............. They ran off movies that were philosophically deep and were eccentric.. Alot of plot to wrap their heads around in a new matter.. The problem with Sucker Punch I have been seeing around reviewers.. IS not that its eccentric and hard to wrap their heads around, that there is very little to wrap their heads around to begin with.

It was certainly a "visionary" movie in that the vision appeal was all it had.

No, the movie is just stupid. I'm so sick of people thinking crap movies have some deeper meaning and acting like that suddenly makes it a good movie. "Sucker Punch" unapologetically sucker punched me in the intelligence center of my brain.

honestly I started reading the "review" or whatever you call that, and it just sounds like some young kid who can't accept other people disliking a movie they loved and are now using the internet to try and convince others that it's really a great movie.

To me though the only thing that movie had going for it was pretty visuals and good music.

I don't pay any attention to critics; normally movies that they enjoy I end up loathing. Last movie I watched that was praised by critics was Monsters, and that was by far one of the worst movies I have ever seen.

I think some people need to learn the concept of "guilty pleasure." There are some films that are just exploitation and visual msturbation, and there are some people that like those films. That's fine, but it pisses me off when they try to say that such films are on the same level as, say, 2001. There are some people who think that just because they state an opinion that makes it valid, which is completely untrue.

I usually am interested in what IGN's movie critics have to say, but... no. Not this time. I had zero interest in that movie, but I think many critics and even people in the industry fail to see that prices are too high for going to the movies to be something you can do on a whim now. It wasn't a misunderstood movie... people just didn't care about it.

I haven't seen it, but if it's anything like Zach Snyder's other "visionary" works, it was probably pretty derivative.

The 2001 comparison is kind of funny. I mean 2001 was no where near perfect, it had a difficult time progressing the plot in a way that actually made sense to the viewer, but it built a strong enough link that they managed to pull it off, however underwhelming it managed to be. When I read the book, I confirmed the movie did make sense, but a whole crapload of everything was left out and somehow it managed to weave a legible plot together, even if it was something of a special effects film back in the day. Suckerpunch.....well, it lacked a feasible plot, and what plot there was, wound up terribly put together. The effects were ok, and I laughed a little at how ludicrous some enemies were, but it was a horrendous failure during the parts where I couldn't turn my mind off. I do think people these days are less open minded with film, but Suckerpunch is certainly not a good example to use in such an argument.

You would think the sex appeal of the movie would be enough for it to do well? hmm, I guess people do actually want more than explosions and hot women.

I haven't seen it yet, but it god bad reviews on RottenTomatoes, I'd still want to go see it but damn, tickets are like $11 these days, and if I got popcorn and a soda that's more than the cost of buying it on blu-ray in a couple months, where they'll probably release a director's cut rated R version instead so maybe I should just wait this one out and rent it... or wait until it comes to Neflix, whichever.

I enjoyed the movie for its action and the scantily clad heroines, but that's pretty much it. It wasn't anywhere near as memorable as 300 or Watchmen.

Yeah get off it IGN. I've read their film reviews and its even worse than their gaming content. They cater all their reviews to their fanbase. Just look at their top films of the decade. Stuff like 300.

And this Sucker Punch thing looks like it doesn't even hide the fact that its trying to be a video game/wet dream/fanboy machine.

Considering both Black Swan and True Grit went to the top of the US box office I don't think people have an entirely closed mind. Maybe they're just sick of crap?

Awwwwww...that's cute, IGN is having problems growing up. I've noticed over the years that one of the biggest hurdles that some people seem to have when getting older is accepting the fact that you can really enjoy and appreciate something even when you know it's crap. The first step is to cease attempts at justifying your garbage and just accept the fact that you like it regardless of what pointless things like Metacritic and Rotten Tomatoes says.

VendettaRed07

Plot holes? The burlesque house wasn't real. All the girls were being raped by that staff and they created the house as a way to cope. The action scenes are Baby dolls imagination within Sweet Peas mind. As it said at the end of the movie. It was Sweet Peas story.

The movie did try WAY too hard at being smart. If it had pulled it off correctly then more people would understand it wasn't simply a mindless action flick... Not to say it was a great movie. But it certainly wasn't terrible.

The action scenes were awesome, it doesnt take itself too seriously and the storyline wasn't terrible. Didnt know how hated it was, it was a fun watch!!

Saying that, the one thing that REALLY annoyed me:

when they wrote the "plan" on the blackboard, they didnt even switch it round again, let alone rub it off to hide it!!

The only "misunderstood" movie I think that could be said for Zack Snyder's movies was "The Watchmen" for the people who were expecting a typical comic book hero movie.. This on the other hand.. Ridiculous.

I sort of agree, as this was a upfront action fest movie (a-la Transformers)

To the people that expected a good plot,

Hold on. They're not saying that people should just accept it as an action movie. They're saying people don't understand it as something more elaborate and out there, visionary, like 2001
