Whats the most effecient and fastest way to lose body fat? I'm 5'5 and I weigh about 230lbs. I just had some massive reconstruction on my leg so I can't run or jog, I cant really walk longer than a few minutes. I can bike though. My kidneys are failing and my body has always produced dangerious levels of fat. I dont really eat out much, or eat junk in general. I gained far too much body fat in a very short amount of time.

I can't get into super detail, but the docs say about 6-8 months....unless I drop about 100lbs. A few years ago I used to be a fit 130lbs, which seems normal for my height. Shot up to 280 right after my reconstruction, dropped back down to 230. The sudden influx of body fat is killing me, literally. Any suggestions?

Bike a lot since that's all you can do. Also, don't eat any desserts, junk food, etc.

I'd highly recommend swimming. It's great aerobic excercise, and low stress on your joints.

Cut all fruit juice and soda out of your diet. Drink plenty of water instead. That's an easy way to eliminate hundreds of empty calories a day.

Never skip breakfast and eat a small, healthy snack between breakfast and lunch and between lunch and dinner. Don't eat anything after 9PM.

First, turn off your computer and other electronics, that's key. Second, buy less fatty food (eg cut out any chips, processed cheese, ect). Third, take a walk every day for an hour or two. It won't be much fun, but this is the only way I can think of at this second.

If you have a stationary bike, work on it constantly! If you don't, may I suggest buying one, to uh, save your life? Do what Bumfluff said, lift weights, crunches, anything you can do without hurting yourself.

By the way, the easiest way to loose weight is just to be careful with your diet. I went from 175-180lbs to 150 (I'm 5'10-11) in a few months without exercising just by being more careful with my diet.

How old are you? Has anything changed other than your lack of physical activity?

It sounds odd that you would suddenly gain so much weight if nothing else changed, and the renal failure is a bit odd. This could be due to a medical condition, like hypothyroidism or cushings disease, both of which are dangerous if left untreated.

If I were your physician, I would probably refer you to an endocrinologist.

Yeh and if you struggle on those bikes you can always put it near the TV and watch it, I would eat really healthy, proper meals and do what ever you can to lose weight, I wish you the best with it.

Do the exact opposite of what you've been doing, instead of driving to work, use a bicycle, instead of chips, eat sliced up carrots. However you do need the commitment first, otherwise it won't work.

Do sports likie swimming, weight lifting to build muscles. And get off your computer rigt now and try ot to watch TV or play games that much. Also add vegetables in your diet if you haven't and try to avoid high ammounts of red meat. I wish the best for you. Also drink plenty of water and about 1 glass of unsweetened green tea, which will help you be healthy again.

I lost a ton of weight really fast last summer...

1) Eat as close to 0 grams of carbs as you can per meal (no bread, no sugar of any kind, no alcohol)

2) Take Alli supplements (approved by the FDA- u can get them at GNC) if u eat a meal with any fat in it

3) Start a rigorous exercise schedule involving light weight lifting and heavy cardio

Good luck!

Liposuction wouldn't help. They are usually limited to taking off around 20lbs, and you gain most of it back during the recovery process.

Liposuction is done more for cosmetic purposes.

If he's really 100lbs overweight, he should qualify for gastric bypass.

And yeah, health insurance blows. They deny everything they can and still stick you with a big bill in the end.

I'm 23, I've been unable to walk for nearly 3 years. I've undergone many reconstructions on my legs in the past 3 years, all were back to back, some were done while still recovering from the last. I've literally been unable to walk for 36+ months. I've seen and been seeing, of course, many doctors about it. It is a thyroid issue, but a very seveare one. I don't eat junk food, the occasional monlthy or bi montly pizza or burger run. I don't eat chips :) or drink too much soda. My body just produces much more fat than it should. My diet is mostly protein based to try to counter this. It's been working to maintain the weight to a small degree, but the fat still is being produced too fast. I used to swim for my high school team :D I guess I'll have to start up again, I wanted to avoid swimming because of the constant flailing of the leg.

Gastric bypass has a waiting list of 6-12 months. I'll be dead by then. Thats why it wasn't recommended by doctors, cuz they know i'll never get on and the insurance I DO HAVE WONT PAY for it ty uncle sam ur awesome

WOW and thank you for the insanely fast replys and support :)

Get off the computer. Eat healthy and properly. Get a personal trainer that will push you to lose the weight. I dont know if I would be able to lose that amount of weight if I had too. I guess I'm lucky to be thin.

Didn't your doctor give you any suggestions. I'm sure he didnt say to go home and searcha gaming sitesforum for help.

Do lots and lots of stomach exercises. Completely control your diet right down to the last calorie. And most importantly, speak to a pro, OT can only help you so much.

I think you should have a dexamethasone suppression test and an MRI of your pituitary.

Have you noticed any changes in your vision, and does the fat seem like it's building on your trunk while your arms and legs become frail?

Ask your doctor about having the two tests I mentioned done next time you see him or her.

You may also need to have your synthroid dosage adjusted.

Try cutting out the sodas, the pizzas, and the hamburgers entirely. Then call your doctor and ask if you have any type of medical problems that all the other posters have mentioned.

Just whenever you exercise think about Superman and that you are trying to make Krypton proud. As Afraud said, if you can't put much weight on the leg, swim. Also upper body weight lifting to burn fat and build muscle.

Good luck, I'd hate to see a fellow appreciator of Superman die!

Just thought of something else. Being immobilized, do you routinely take heparin, lovenox, or any similar drugs?

The lovenox would be a subcutaneous injection.

I'm trying to account for why a 23 year old would have renal failure.

You would be surprised how little doctors care most of the time. Many are overworked, and spend a grand total of about five minutes with each patient, if that.

Many physicians I've worked with will tell their patients to "lose weight" but never give any explanation of how to accomplish that.

all I can recommend is to swim, its really one of the only quick weight losing exrcises that has little to no stress on your legs.

I wouldnt bike that wouldnyt help you to much , tbh other then in your legs biking gives you almost no exercise. Id recommend running but you said you cant, so the only thing for yo uto do is swim...

also dont lift weights, because then youll just gain more weight. (in muscle although IDK if that will count.)

You might consider walking on a treadmill.

You can select the speed you want to walk at, plus if you set an incline, the added elevation will help you burn more calories.

Don't eat a lot at any one meal, and don't eat more calories than you burn from exercising.
