Personally I find it disgraceful but the fat ones make me chuckle.

I think it's horrible..I didn't spend 20 years in WW2 just so some guy can say he served just to pick up chicks....Omni-Slash

It is actually a serious problem. Google "Military Imposters" and you'll see what those posers have done: receiving money from donors, harassing women, receiving benefits, and etc. In fact, the Stolen Valor Act of 2005 which was designed to punish imposters.

Just had a guy near where I used to live get accused of that. He was a local "hero" and was always telling people his war stories and claiming he had three purple hearts. Turns out the guy only did a year of service and some other ugly things came to light. It was a pretty humorous article. Here it is if anyone is interested.
