That's right dammit. I need to get this off my chest!I rarely use emoticons but

Let me start off by saying that I'm not sober (please don't hold it against me) and understand I might make an ass of myself. But here goes nothin'...

Why do people feel the need to flirt everywhere they go?

I ask this question because I just witnessed a friend of mine try to hit on my other friend's mother, in front of her husband. This is the result of heavy drinking, obviously and none of this will be applicable in the morning. But still dude, in front of her hubby???

It just made a grand night turn sour. Killed the buzz.

I'll ask again: why do people feel the need to flirt wherever they go? It just pisses everyone off.

This is the result of heavy drinking,

GenericUser12

That said it all. People do stupid sh*t while drunk, myself included :)

Yep, it's really nothing shocking.

I was at a bar a few nights ago with some friends and my buddy John was trying to pick up this girl. I knew this, so I was doing what I could to help him, basically saying nice things about him to her and that he was attracted to her. However my other buddy Ryan seemed like he just kept trying to compete with John for her attention. It honestly kept pissing me off a little bit because we all knew that John liked her a lot and here is his buddy all up on her. Anyway, at the end of the night she told me to make sure John calls her, so it all worked out, but Ryan was seriously ticking me off. I think some guys are just a** holes. I can be drunk and still set aside my sex drive to help a friend, while Ryan just did not care. /end rant.

Entropy wins -

I know precisely what you mean. It's not a matter of displaying your sex drive, it's just respecting your peers. I feel no need to compete for a chick. If they're clearly interested in another dude, it's not my business to step in! That's a key component of civilized living.

Funny though when you think about it, there may be more meaning behind the term "watering hole."

People that compete for the attention of women in a bar (or party) are basically using this social environmentno differently than animals would enjoy an actual watering hole, you know, like on the savannah or some ****. It's barbaric and I don't frankly care for it.

And on a side note, I just searched "entropy" on wikipedia to find out what it means. Alls I gotta say is: damn that's complicated science. I'm kind of embarrassed that I read the whole synopsis and don't even have the slightest grasp of it... O_o

Flirting is absolutely dire 99% of the time. It is irritating to witness, and it usually is irritating to participate in. I never know what to say because it all just seems so insincere and contrived. If you're interested in somebody, surely you like them enough that you wouldn't want to reuse the same cheesy old lines on them. :(

I agree, and admit that I have a hard time participating in such obvious rituals to pick up a possible intimate partner. Virtually every young lady I have ever seriously dated I have met in a setting like school or work, the types of places we had to be anyway and just happened on each other. At a bar or some place similar it just seems too forced and as you said insincere/contrived. At the same time though, participating in such acts sometimes seems to be the only way to actually find a girl your age, so sadly I confess to using such methods to 'pick up' chicks that are just dying to be picked up. It is either play that game or be lonely a lot of the time.

I always liked the bedroom analogy. Your bedroom can never become cleaner over time, it can only gradually become more dirty. A t-shirt here, a sock there, and eventually it's just a mess. Until you expend the energy to clean it yourself of course.

Yeah, I'm pretty much the same - every guy I've ever dated has been someone I've met through social settings like school or extracurriculars, so it's just been more of a natural progression. I think it's best when it happens that way, but I guess I'm not exactly an expert on the matter. :P Ha, yeah, sometimes you unfortunately just have to play the game.

When I drink I tend to almost always flirt with women. I feel like a jackass the next morning, my standards go right out the window.

Not all of us who drink are morons who don't know how to control our actions. Being drunk is no excuse for stupidity.

Never found anything wrong with flirting tbh. 1. It makes people feel good (like they are wanted) -nothing better than a woman that feels sexy (you will be rewarded later on) 2. I have been secure in my relationships for it not to bother me -I take it for what it is and expect that it will happen with my partner and that she will understand when it happens with me tl;dr -it is fun, makes you feel good, and no harm is done
