[QUOTE="foxhound_fox"]You never "need" religion. All you ever "need" is yourself and those people around you who care for you and you for them.USSJAndrew

If you're speaking on behalf of every person, you're wrong. There are people that claim they need religion and you can't prove that they don't need it, about the same as your inability prove that the New Testament isn't against homosexuality.

Put somebody in a room at birth. Raise them with all of life's necessities(food, water, oxygen, etc.). They'll be complelty alive, trust me. Theres your proof.

I was refering to dealing with life's problems. More on an emotional level and how you percieve life.

Be a Buddhist. That's what I would do if I wanted to be part of a 'religion'.

I just don't get why people can't just be happy and not ask so many questions.

Why do you even care if someone chooses to believe in something that they feel close to and gets help from to where that it may bring them peace and prosperity in life?

*gives in!*

Read Romans 1 for starters.

The New Testament presupposes the laws of the Old Testament. There are indeed a few laws we no longer have to follow but that's only because there is no need to follow them. Rules like stoning a disobediant child were in place to show the rightful punishment. This doesn't mean we are to actually kill our child! Does Jesus not say "He who is without sin cast the first stone?" We are to follow all the laws of the Old Testament unless the New Testament says otherwise...

*done for now*

...sorry...

I fell to the temptation...

Thank goodness I do not have to stone myself now. :D

Well I'd go with it is when you come down to it that those who do this usually(not always) Force their beliefs and piety on others. You could see this on numerous issues I won't bring up because they've been beaten to death here on the forums. If you believe in God good for you. If you don't good for you too. Mocking any belief system or disbelief is a tad bit childish. The real issue both sides need to get is that uh everyone has an opinion so stop trying to force yours on someone else.

with that said. To the original poster of this issue. It is possible to adapt other philosophies of religions to connect on a deeper level with whomever you choose to worship

Wait, I thought Jesus was God in human form? Well of course he is pleased with himself!

What makes you think you need a religion? Religion is just another word for "Organized bunch of people who believe the same thing". If your beliefs, like mine, don't fit exactly with any group's, make your own. You don't have to name it. Just say you believe in god/afterlife/oasis etc.

I believe in god, but I don't agree with any religion fully.

You don't need to join a religion. Believe what you believe, rather than subscribing to and then molding your beliefs to something else entirely.

The only way to be Zoroastrian is if you were born into a Zoroastrian family. You can't simply convert to Zoroastrianism.

I know there are quite a few people who don't practice religion in terms of belief. I know some that just like the tradition and practices of church. I would try actually reading the bible, and learn the actual teachings. Not what you hear about it from others, and on the news.

That or you could try to learn the teachings of Buddha which I greatly admire. I like Confucionism as well, although he didn't even like religion, and probably would hate the way his teachings have been twisted this day and age.

what? Confucious preached principals about social, and philosophical issues. I guess his actual teachings haven't been changed. But he wouldn't like how they've been made into a religion

Since when was a philosophy about how to live life the one factor in determining if something is a religion?

I don't believe in God as a separate entity(like teached in most religions), but I do believe in a God that is everywhere and that we are a part of it. God is in my hearth.

I would like to join a religion, but don't know which one. Christianity doesn't seem very appealing to me.

Any suggestions ?

AC2010

I share your views, but I also think that god can manifest in a single entity. God is like the force in star wars, but god can also be a single person if you catch my drift.

When people take the philosophy and turn it into a fundamental way to believe. Much like what people have done with the book, Dianetics. Confucious' teachings actually counter what his teachings actually have become, in terms of how people practice them.
