I was in the army office today I wanted to go alone, but my dad made me let him go. We was in there and he told them I was going to join and they said I was going to be in combat!

LJS9502_basic

Calm down. If you didn't sign anything then you won't be in the army. Next time stop your dad from handling things in your life.

A recruiter doesn't know where you're going to end up outside of basic. You believe this story?

Unless you're a Nasty Girl.

Anyways you can still get out of it. It's not like you've gone to MEPS yet. Nothing is set in stone quite yet.

American soldiers hardly ever die in combat in Afghanistan so you don't have to worry about it. I don't see anywhere else a normal trooper can go where there is combat. The Phillipines and Iraq are just filled with special ops and advisors.

Sounds like you need to stand up for yourself and not be pushed into things you don't want to do.

I'm having a tough time understanding what the hell you are saying. Is your dad forcing you to join the military? If so, tell him to f*** off and mind his own life. As for the combat thing, what exactly are you worried about? You are joining the military for christ sake. What career path did you sign up for (I'm assuming the U.S. military lets you choose)? If you choose a combat role, then you should have know that actual combat may have been a possibility.

Didn't we just have a thread talking about how you shouldn't/couldn't be in the military because of your depression meds...?

Don't worry. Being in the army is not as dangerous as you might think though it is extremely boring.

If you don't want to go then don't go. If you're old enough to fight then you're old enough to choose not to

Something to note: if you're going to die, then die bravely.  But joining the army should be your choice, not your father's.

If that's true it's pretty sad. Why do people even join the army these days is my question?

It IS sad but I think the guy said it in a hilarious way: "Today you breath the next day you are... DEAD"

Your parents can't enlist you into the arm forces. Are you sure you're not talking about military school, or the Boy Scots?

if so....it can't be that bad, might be good for you.

Your dad can't sign you up, I think you're lying. Besides it's stupid to join on a walk in, even if you're committed to the idea of going, you have to ponder the various types of jobs available, what kind of job training and skills that will give you for the civilian world, see about signing bonuses, see what your post high school education if any will get you in rank, pay, look at the benefits, what they give you to go to school, all that good stuff. Then you gotta hit up the Navy and Air Force and Coast Guard and National Guard and Marines and see how they all compare in everything I mentioned above. Again see about jobs types and how those skills might transfer to civilian world jobs, ask about signing bonuses, see what education benefits it comes with. You probably have to negotiate with some of the stuff. If you're committed to joining, see about an ROTC program at colleges, it would be much better for you to earn an education before joining for pay reasons, you can become an officer easier and earn more money. If you really did join under the pressure of your father tell him that, tell him you want to give more serious consideration to joining, even if you want to join the services there's still lots to consider beyond just that.
