.... Each one of those movies were garbage...[QUOTE="sSubZerOo"][QUOTE="Baranga"]
4 out of 4: Godzilla, The Patriot, The Day After Tomorrow and 10000 BC.
Baranga
Critics hate them because it's cool to hate Emmerich. All of them made a lot of money, they were hugely successful.
And The Patriot isn't garbage no matter how you try to spin it. Simply put, it's a great historical movie.
Xaos - those are only the US numbers. 10000 BC made over 300 million worldwide.
No, those movies were in my (non-movie critic opinion) pretty godawful :([QUOTE="sSubZerOo"] By great historical movie you mean grossly inaccurate with the only things they were able to get generally correct was that the colonies were at war with Great Britian?Baranga
Damn, I guess Spartacus or Saving Private Ryan aren't historical either.
Saving Private Ryan at least kept the vast majority of the events that occured int he movie correct.. The characters were never suppose to be based off real people, just fictional characters in the war.. The main character of the Patriot was a historical figure. Emmerich's films have always been extremely simple lacking any depth, and makes up with it for either large special effects or battles.. Much like Michael Bay.[QUOTE="sSubZerOo"]Seriously who can actually characterize any of these movies as amazing or exceptional? 10,000 BC was AWFUL...kulmiyeDo all films have to be garbage or exceptional. Is there no in between? Of course, but Emmerich has by and large released some awful movies and his best movies most would characterize as average.

actually I didn't really care for The Patriot (and I don't hold anything against it for being innacurate mavies gotta be entertaining after all). I never did see Godzilla or 10000 BC so whatever. The Day After Tomorrow was ok but honestly I didn't find anything special about it that made it overly memorable.[QUOTE="Baranga"][QUOTE="sSubZerOo"] By great historical movie you mean grossly inaccurate with the only things they were able to get generally correct was that the colonies were at war with Great Britian?sSubZerOo

Both movies were written by the same guy anyway. Emmerich had nothing to do with TP's plot.

Labor Day. Focusing on Jeff Goldblum's effort to rebuild his house.

based on history does not mean historical. It sounds odd, I know, but simply because a director says "OK, we are going to put this movie during the Revolutionary War" does not mean any actions within the movie are historical.
Historical, imo at least, implies non-fiction.
You can use any other term you want; quasihistorical, semihistorical, fictionalized historical...just dont call it historical
Schindler's List is a historical movie because it is based on actual events and reenacts them
That movie with Matthew Broderick where he leads the black soldiers during the US Civil War is historical because it is based on real events and reenacts them
I loved that movie, but a sequel? No thanks. What's it going to be about? The aliens come back and blow up everything...again?
there dead as far as i know and as far as what was in the movie watch the part at area 51 before they try to nuke themI loved that movie, but a sequel? No thanks. What's it going to be about? The aliens come back and blow up everything...again?
Renegade_Fury
Sequel should be interesting. It doesn't have to have Will Smith, maybe it's like 30years in the future or something. Anyways, one script i heard about AGES ago was that the aliens invade and this time it's more of a ground war and space battles. Like the first mothership was just a scouting ship or first wave or something.
Independence Day was good - why try to push your luck and make a sequel to it? Sequels RARELY succeed at maintaining the quality of the first film, and even fewer end up being better. However, this is the case of neither, as trying to stretch the whole premise of Independence Day into another movie will just not have anywhere near the same effect. It's just best left alone, I think.dbz345It will fail like terminator sequal.
I loved this movie as a kid, and I still get a kick out of it. It's corny as hell, but I still love Bill Pullman's speech as the President lol. As intrigued as I am about a sequel, I just don't see how they could come up with a legitimate continuation of the story.
If they want Will Smith they're going to be waiting a very long time I think. He should know better. If they don't get Will Smith I won't be watching it.(if it even comes out)
Flamecommando
All that guy's movies have sucked since ID4.
Day After Tomorrow - awful
10,000 BC - awful
2012 - probably awful too
Special Effects are only 50% of a movie. You need quality actors and an actual story in order for it to be a complete movie.

If they want Will Smith they're going to be waiting a very long time I think. He should know better. Yeah the majority of his career as of late has been serious movies.. Even Hancock had a hint of seriousness to it that Independence Day did not have what so ever..I think he is a Michael Bay clone personally.Am i the only one who thinks this guy is worse than Michael Bay?
