most christians believe that God wrote the bible
However, the bible does have errors
how can the bible, or any holy scriptures, be the divine words of God if there are any errors in it?

err...it's common knowledgs among believers and atheists alike that the bible is a series of religioustexts written overcenturies by several different authors.
What kind of errors?Pittfan666that rabbits chew their cud, and there are contradictions in the bible.
[QUOTE="Pittfan666"]What kind of errors?notconspiracythat rabbits chew their cud, and there are contradictions in the bible.Oh boy. Do you understand that the Bible isn't always specific on what kind of animal it is actually talking about? That "rabbit" may not really be a rabbit. People called animals different names back then. Here's another thing, the Bible has it's riddles.

1. Yes God did write the Bible. He wrote it THROUGH people. The writers understood God and His will so basically God "wrote" the Bible.most christians believe that God wrote the bible

Not always. A lot of the books are simply accounts of important events that the author believes God inspired, rather than God actually having told them what words to write. God may be perfect, but the people who wrote them, the people whodecided what books should be included in the official bible, and the people whotranslated the texts don't have to be. There are bound to be parts that seem out of place or distorted somehow.
Oh boy. Do you understand that the Bible isn't always specific on what kind of animal it is actually talking about? That "rabbit" may not really be a rabbit. People called animals different names back then. Anamosa41My understanding was that the texts were translated from their original languages so as to be readable by modernity. Maybe I'm wrong, but I can't imagine that Filistines back in the day called a dog a "rabbit". Really.
Many Christians are jerks that don't pay any attention to the bible. They are frauds & posers, they just attend church because they think attending church excuses them from being a douchebag. Church became and has long beena high society. A place for snobs to get together and pretend they are better than everyone else.
Why is itthat everyone misses the lessons thatthe bibleattempts to teach? Whoever wrote itwas a very wise person or peopleand that's all that matters to me.

So the person who wrote leviticus (which contained such wonderful teachings as how to properly beat your slaves and sell your daughter into slavery, as well as orders to execute children who disrespected their parents) was a "wise" person? Alrighty then...

I know what you are talking about when it comes to the execution of the children but what are you talking about with the selling your daughter and beating your slave? BTW do not talk like that about Mosses. That is wrong.most christians believe that God wrote the bible

[QUOTE="MagnumPI"]Some people are complete fakes, yes. There are bad Christians and there are good Christians, relative to the Bible. It is a marginalization of Christianity to simply call the "good" people Christians and the bad ones not. No...most Christians don't say God wrote the Bible. /thread.LJSEXAYSome I will believe...most I will not.
What i dont get about Christianity is this....
God knows everything about us, what we've done, what we are doing, and what we are gonna do with our futures and our actions and all of that right???
SOOOO....
When god puts us here, he already knows the kind of life we are going to lead...
SOOOO.....
god puts people on earth knowing he's sending them to hell????
Can somebody clear that up for me???
That's really not an arguement at all, more like something someonewith an agendawould say.
The laws that people are citing as an arguement on the evils of Christianity (executions and the like) were part of the Hebrew scriptures, and written as the laws of a nomadic warrior culture, the strict adherence to these laws were what Jesus liberated people from with his teachings which became the basis for modern Christianity.
I still think that the Hebrew scripture (old testament) has many great parables. But my interest in the bible mainly lies in the four gospels (part of the new testament) which chronicle the life and teachings of Christ, the greatest man in human history.
the whole calvinism armenianism is a pretty big debate in christian circlesWhat i dont get about Christianity is this....

Not all Christians take the Bible as fact. Your argument is flawed... if it were "against Christianity" it would not only actually prove something but take into account the entire religion itself.foxhound_fox
Would you agree that all Christians believe that the Bible was at least inspired by God?

God doesn't know what we will do, we choose the path for ourselves. And if you believe that he knows you might go to hell, that could be answered like the argument "why does God let there be war". He wants you to choose your own path, because if he steers us down the path he wants, which is straight to Heaven, we are not proving our faith to him. Do you want to be stopped every time you do something un Christian like? How much fun is that? God wants us to enjoy life, but also worhip him. It is not God's fault we go to hell, or we fight. We have deterioted and violence is a part of our lives now. And he does not know our actions. He may not know I will move my left foot in 12 years from now. And yes, the TC's argumet is flawed and almost undebatable.

The anti-Christian argument is silly because it doesn't even apply but this argument refutes itself. If God knows the choices we'll make, he knows our fate, which would have to be predetermined and thus contrary to free will.

I would like a Christian to define free will in their own words.. Because this has been argued in the scientific and Philosophy community for centuries on if we truely have it.. Kane for instance a top thinker on free will believes it comes from indeterminism meaning its at random in certain events on our lives. He also gives a strong argument showing how most of our freedoms are decided through social culture conditioning.
There's people out there who think the King James version is the Bible in its original unaltered form.PherdnutChiken
Which is scary, a text this controversial and controling could have been altered in numerous ways.. If you were king, it would be odvious to alter certain parts of a holy text to make the population more obidient.. Then there is always translation errors, etc etc.

So you believe God knows that you will go to heaven/hell? It's one thing saying God knows that, but another to say we don't have free will.
