Good heavy music:
Tool, of course, but if you want something heavier, listen to Meshuggah. Brilliant musicians, and as you can see on the clip, they don't take themselves too serious. Or why not Dillinger Escape Plan? Refused? None of these bands can be labeled metal, though.
But when my revolution comes, labeling music will be forbidden.

Uh dude, the only non-metal band in there is Refused.....
Tool is prog metal, Messugah has been thrown into many differnet metal subgenres (Apparently they experiment alot), and The Dillinger Escape Plan is the godfather of the math metal genre.

Opeth are pretty mainstream among metal bands, highly appraised and relatively well known. One of the bigger names out there atmst1ckball
but how exactly does that make them bad? Their lyrics are phenominal, every intstrument is played with a passion, and a skill that far supasses any of this extrememe metal stuff.
I still don't get the "inhaling while talking" thing. Kind of creeps me out.aaaaarrrrggggg
When done correctly, and in moderation, they can add to a song.
