when will Washington realize it has a spending problem rather than a revenue problem?

sexyweapons

Probably when you realize that this isn't a federal tax, but rather a bill making it easier for states to collect taxes on online purchases.

Go easy on me,I'm British:x:P. But wouldn't this have go through like a state Congress or something then?

A federal law needs only to go through the federal congress and the president. If states choose to make any changes to their tax laws, then they would do so through their state legislature and governor.

It sucks that politicians are supposed to represent the people but actively go against what the people want.

The idea of publicly elected officials doing much right is laughable.

The people want all the benefits that our society offers, but don't want to actually pay for them. Case in point, last November the people of my county threw a fit over a proposed county-wide sales tax of 1% to help fund the local schools. These same folks, of course, bitch about the schools being underfunded. 1%. They want their kid's school to have more money, but an extra penny on the dollar is just too much of a sacrifice for them to personally make.

The fact that politicians are willing to piss off parts of their constituency at all is the only reason why society hasn't collapsed from ignorant laymen putting inefficient and/or destructive policies in place.

Lame. Honestly though, I am more surprised that this is just now being looked into. I buy almost everything besides food and clothing online just because I don't have to pay a sales tax and I can usually find free shipping

MOAR TAXES PLEEEEESE

lol

Our govt are crooks, they cannot even manage sensibly what they already take in. They want more more more for bigger useless programs, more welfare, more wars.

This will keep going until the house of cards collapses.

While I agree too many people complain about taxes (even if they're paying damn near nothing) for the sake of complaining about taxes, there could have been other issues at stake. Where I used to live, the county wanted to increase the sales tax by 1% to fund a new public library. The problem? Well, the extra sales tax was going into the general fund, where it could have been used for anything that needed funding. The funds weren't being earmarked or anything of the sort. We were just told the extra 1% would go to build a library. Predictably, the measure was defeated at the ballot box. If the extra penny would have gone into a separate library fund, I'm sure it would have passed. No one likes to say no to a public library, but when there are no guarantees the extra money will go toward its intended purpose, the politicians need to be told to bugger off.
