Ok, I have an 80 gig Video, and it was working just fine all day yesterday, until I had to synch it with my new laptop, which is running Vista. Old one ran XP. Upon connecting the iPod to the computer, it said somethign along the lines of "There are files that may have errors. Would you like to scan to fix these errors" or something, which I clicked yes, but then it couldn't saying it couldn't detect the disc. So I just continued on with the synch. Once it finished, I unplugged it and started to playing something, which it then abruptly shut off. I turned it back on, and then it shut off right away giving me a dead battery icon. I plugged it back in, and then it said it was fully charged, so when I unplugged it, the battery indicator already lost a bit of charge. I browsed the iPod and played a game and watched the indicator very rapidly decrease. I plugged it back in, and again, it said it was fully charged. I already let it charge over night and still, there is no change. I also updated the ipod with the latest firmware. Does anyone have any kind of tips for me to try or something? I want to call Apple only as a last resort, because I'm pretty sure my warrant has long expired.

The "There are files that may have errors. Would you like to scan to fix these errors" error has happened to me before and I had to reformat my iPod and had to put everything back on...iTunes is a mess. But the second part of your problem didn't happen to me...I'd try the Apple forums if they exist.

JPL, mine's done this twice. Like DrSponge I had to reformat it, and just looked for solutions on google. I don't remember what site I used, I've only had problems since this latest ITunes update. Uggh!

Yeah, I was thinking of putting it in the general hardware forum, but for some reason, I can't seem to find that anymore. Anyway, I guess I'll just have to fiddle with it when I get home. Thanks everyone.

You could try using SharePod to put your music on your iPod if you're tired of iTunes. It lets you put music on it from different computers and lets you transfer music from the iPod to another computer. It would take a while to put everything back onto the iPod using it if you have a big library, though.

I'll give you the same advice I give everyone who has an ipod. Throw it away and get a real media player.
