Well if pr0n sites ask if you are 18 and you are, then I'd say that yes, you are an adult. :P

Congratulations, you're a legal adult. You can sign contracts and die for your country, among other things. Can't drink or smoke (in NJ), though, irony of ironies.

Legally, yes, in the United States. Meaning: You can sign your own contracts, purchase cigarettes (in my state, anyway), join the Army, give consent to sex and marriage, emancipate yourself from your parents, and face adult ramifications in the case you commit a crime.:D

Mentally and emotionally, however, will be a long time coming. :P

In terms of legality, yes. In terms of maturity, not usually.

Legally, yes, you are an adult. However, you're probably not so much when maturity comes into the picture. (I'm not meaning to offend you.) The frontal lobe of the brain isn't fully developed until the early to mid-twenties. The frontal lobe of the brain controls important things like making decisions. I'm far from being completely mature.:( I'm 17, by the way.:P

Not really because you'll still feel very childish when you have to hide your alcahol.

Well, the legal drinking age in the U.S. is 21...I don't know if individual states can pass their own drinking laws...correct me if I'm wrong. Also, I think minors can go to prison, too. I'm pretty sure if a 16 or 17 year-old committed murder, they would go to prison.

By law, yeah. Everyone 'feels' like an adult at a different age, though. I don't really think of 18-year-olds as adults, though, really. I think of them as teens/young adults. I'm 18 myself. I don't feel like an adult at all, and I'm not even immature.

As far as mental maturity goes, probably not even close.

I'm safe then, in a few minutes you'll be so drunk you'll be seeing double of double decker, and it'd be a leap to hit that kind of quad!

More of a "young adult." Technically speaking, you are not considered a true adult in the US until the age of 35. I say that because one must be that age or older for a person to become president. However, there are cultures like the ancient Hebrews who taught that you were an adult at the age of 12.

By law, you're an adult. As far as maturity goes, you can be 18 and still have the maturity level of someone half your age. You're 18, you say? Then BE 18.

Legally it is. Your rights as an adult begin at 16 (license to drive a motor vehicle, age of consent) and by the time you are 18 you are legally an adult (you can smoke, drink, gamble, vote, enter into contracts and join the army).

I'm 20, and most of my friends are all older than me. When we're all together and looking for things to do, they always decide on the bars and clubs while I get left behind...they don't actually leave me, but I still feel bad for holding them back. Damn illogical US laws! :x
