What's your opinion? Personally I consider it all generally feminine -- I see nothing manly about it, at all.

I'd be self-cautious about my sexuality if I thought that Cloud was cool. Not trying to be mean, I'm just saying.

It's really hard to tell when you're just looking at the mainstream stuff, it's even harder when you look beyond the surface.

female characters always seem to have big jugs, but guys usually look cool if you know what i mean. i guess it all boils down to story and genre.

It very much depends on the artist. Some find it easier to make feminim looking characters, both male and female, others make more masculine Female and males and some make either one of them feminim and masculine.

If you choose what to enjoy based on whether it threatens your sexuality, I think there's your problem. :P

But just for kicks:

... or Hellsing, or Ergo Proxy. Some animes though, are meant to be girly (Love Hina) because... they're marketed towards girls *le gasp* :o It's like asking if horror films are geared towards either gender....

Some anime are manly, some are girly. This applies to any other kind of media (books, movies, video games, ect.).

I've always considered most of them to be aimed at guys, considering how many shows there are with one average-looking guy protagonist surrounded by a dozen big-breasted air-headed "anime babes".

But it depends a lot on the anime show, there are shows aimed specifically at guys and shows aimed specifically at girls and those two genres are as different as day and night.

If watching Kenshiro from Fist of the North Star make bad guys heads and bodies explode from a single poke or punch is girly, then I'd be afraid to see what would be considered manly.

In general? There are all kinds of genres.. it's like asking a movie fan whether movies are manly or girly. In one word: pointless.

Anime isn't girly or manly.

However, it can make you a weeabo, which is a fate worse than death.

 I have to admit that last entry made me snicker.

But indeed it really depends on what you are watching.

Berserk, Fist of the North Star = Muy muy Macho!

Ghost in the Shell, Neon Genesis Evangelion = Cerebral

Nausicaa, Laputa = Epic adventure

Fruits Basket, Full Moon, To Heart = super girly girl

...and honestly you could keep going on and on with a wide variety of categories. The anime field is a very wide and all-encompassing genre full of almost any classification you could think of.

I'd say its made to attract both men and women equally. They do this by having very emotional plots mostly based on romance/revenge with characters that all act like 15 year old HS girls including the men. Then they make all the girls super attractive and that makes almost every guy fall in love with them even though they aren't real and will never be real. You can even see it in the thousands of sigs with anime girls in it here. Sorry to 65% of the members of GS. They usually have one or 2 bad asses we guys wish we could relate to. So I'd say its pretty equal. Girlie plots + Japanese HS whores with mini skirts + 1-2 manly men = manly and girly. BTW I've only watched like 4-5 series of anime and only maybe 2-3 I can say I really liked. I know their are some that are different, but I think this sums up your average anime.
