I ask because my mom just came up to me with tears in her eyes. She had a dream in which I died.

Made me realize that although I'm not afraid of my death; she is.

I don't see a point in being afraid of something that you can't avoid. I am sure that in the last 5-10 minutes of my life I will be a bit afraid but at this point in my life I never think about it nor do I have any fear of it

That's maternal instincts. Mums experience that (feel pain from a child's injury, fear for well being, ect). I know I'm not promised tomorrow on this planet, but I wont let that add onto the laundry list of crap that can make life unpleasant for me.

I guess I am, but life would suck if all you ever did was worry about it.

Considering that death is merely a state of non-existence, no. Why should I fear non-existence? In non-existence, one can't suffer (nor be happy) because one does not exist. However, I do fear the prospect of dying a painful and slow death.

Yes, I am afraid of death. I try not to think about it, but when I do I freak out.

Strangely, when someone else dies, I do not feel all that empathetic =/

No, I often think about how I'm gonna die. They usually include either having my head sliced off or being in some sort of explosion.

Here's the bottom line. When your young, you won't be afraid of dying, when your old and in your last years then yes you will be afraid.

Funny thing is (well I guess more strange than funny) that I don't really feel empathetic for a person when they die but I feel really sad anytime I hear about an animal dying, whether its a dog or a cat or a lion, it just makes me really sad and feel for them in a way I don't at all for people. Maybe its because animals are all innocent :/

Im more curious than afraid, im sad when others die but when I think of me dying I dont really think of anything because I dont know what will happen so I have no expectations, If i am right in my beliefs and go to heaven then I will be happy, if I am wrong then I guess I wont feel anything, so there is nothing to fear.

^Same. Maybe it's because animals don't usually deserve it.

I have to cast my vote for opposite... as i grow older im more disillusioned with life and generally hold it in a lower regard.

im not afraid of dying, as in dying itself, but rather the aftermath of it. thinking about how my family would react to my death just depresses me more. likewise if i lose a close relative.

I'm not as afraid of me dying as I am of someone in my immediate family dying. That said, I wouldn't say I'm actively worried about either, but if faced with the imminent threat of them I expect I'd be scared of both.

Im more concenred with what happens to me after I die, then I am with death itself.

death happens, and is an assured thing, but what happens after you die is the more confusing part.

Thats not always the the case. I see a lot of elderly people saying they are ready to die or that they want to die.

I'm not afraid of dying, but afraid of the impact, or lack of same, if I died. I don't think I could rest easy, if there is an afterlife, if I left Earth too soon and left a lot of people sad.

Everyone is afraid of death to some degree. It's that natural fear that keeps up from randomly jumping off a cliff or doing any other idiotic, life endangering activity. It's the reason most are afraid to skydive.

Unlike others, I am more afraid of the idea of non-existence after death rather than the process in which I die.

Mmm...I don't fear death itself, in fact, I would welcome it with open arms...The way I die is what I fear. When I go, I go, but I'd prefer it to be painless..at least on my end..

I don't, and never will, fear death because I can't understand it. I was just thinking about it the other day actually. If everything just turns black and we never "wake up" again, what's there to fear? Everything turns black, but we won't be conscious, so we won't think about it. If we're reborn as another human, then we'll live another life with no memory of our previous lives. Either way, mankind will never know the purpose behind our existence. Why we live, or why we die.

No, what's to fear? Not knowing that you're dead? OH NO!
