We get ripped off for internet, phone, cable. Poutines are not that great. We got no military. Our accent is the plainest. We don't have a culture. I don't see what there is to be proud of here. Someone want to explain why they're proud to be Canadian?

First of all, poutine is delicious. Don't even start on that. We're a peace country, which means nobody will force you to go to war. We don't have ONE culture because we aren't a single group, there's so many different groups here. Go to a canada day celebration, look at the hundreds of different booths of food and cultures from around the world. Our accent is only blah cause it's all you hear. Talk to somebody from somewhere else, you'll notice their accent right away because it's different. And as much as I hate the olympic crap, it's going to bring out a lot of canada. You'll see culture emerging where there wasn't any visible before. Canada is awesome, I'm glad I live here.

Well, we pay a crapload of taxes for the TTC (those drivers get $77 an hour to drive a bus!!), there has been some health care scandals where hospital administrators and ranking politicians took the H1N1 vaccine for themselves when it's supposed to be the first crate that's for the elderly and at risk, the government ordered too much less H1N1 vaccine.

Oh come on, I've tried lots of combinations of cheese, gravy, and fries (I worked in Hero Burgers fast food for some time). Poutine, the taste itself is not more delicious than a fine piece of seafood, and the nutrition itself is not finer than a bowl of vegetables.

yes, we do get ripped off for interwebz, phonez, and cablez. poutine is great. we do have a military and keep in mind we are a peacekeeping nation. i dont know what a plain accent is, but we have MANY dialects of canadian english coast to coast. We have an abundance of culture. we are a mosaic culture, not a melting pot like the States. You have a buttload of freedom in this country.

Well, for the freedom part: We don't have many citizens fanatically supporting the value of Free Speech, unlike what seems like parts of the US. We aren't able to own firearms despite some gangsters smuggling them over the border to harm us. Canadian Law recommends that we always take the path of least resistance when confronted by someone who's about to assault us, such as if someone were to make a grab at your backpack you aren't allowed to punch them. More generally, we have politicians using words like "actionable" and "manageable" as if they mean something. We have teachers stressing the importance of developing communication and teamwork skills when these are far too general and unclear what they are.

Well, there are some areas in the GTA with some rather extremely under-educated residents who does not think much of robbery. In the US you are allowed firearms to protect your homes, but here while we do not, the problem is that some ruffians have gotten them from across the border. Canada has a diverse culture, and almost too diverse. Many of the immigrants are from countries whose educational standard is lower, and also some are refugees, which poses a problem when they don't understand some of the fundamental principles and responsibilities of conducting oneself.

Well, I'm in Toronto. Geographically, the climate in Vancouver should be great (warm all year long), but socially, the urban areas are likely to be similar to Toronto.

But i'm not one for being proud to be Canadian, but hey you gotta admit it is a great country to live in, and i'm definitley glad i was born here. Everyone basically gets a chance at a job here, we all get health care, roads to drive on, Employment insurance. So would you rather live in a poorer country?

Canada barely is different from America, we're very similar countries with similar values, i never got why are citizens hate each other so much.

We do have a military rofl, one thats so good in Afghanistan Canadian commanders were assigned US troops to use that their disposal. We have more cultural than America for instance. We are very multicultural, And poutines are the greatest thing since sliced bread. There destroyed your arguement. Next. P.S. if you dont know what to be proud of you dont deserve to be canadian.

One thing about multiculturality is that the various cultures that make up Canada don't necessarily fit in well with each other. There can be great diversity, but it doesn't mean that each subgroup gets along with each other, nor does it mean they contribute positively to Canadian politics via the responsibilities of activism and informed voting. Poutines can fill you up but the nutrition isn't great! After all, gravy was originally made from beef oil, and the list of ingredients on a package of gravy now is too long for me to remember what was in it. Anyhow, the fries provide calcium, but you're missing a lot of other vitamins. Also, the taste. It is only as good as french fries dipped in sauce. The cheese does not melt completely into the gravy. Our military is very small. It is almost scary how much resources we have here in Canada and what little power we have to defend it in case a shortage broke out.

Because we're less interested in politics, it can make it harder to go in politics, because then those already with higher positions can exploit abilities to prevent anyone else from climbing up while the public does not notice.

I guess nowadays it's impossible for anything to be inoffensive/unagressive without being called a pansy. Seriously, I prefer Canada maintaining the image of the pacifist nation rather than the more aggressive/millitaristic image that the US diffuses.

So, I guess we should then be neither proud nor disappointed of our nationalities.

I'm from Quebec (well actually I'm Lebanese but still)

I'm not extremely proud and I'm not "not proud".

Canada is a great place. People are mostly peaceful even if they whine a lot about everything (especially in Quebec). They usually don't like war and violence. It's a pretty safe place to stay. We're pretty much off-the-radar in international affairs. We don't have much to say.

And, even though many people won't admit it, Canadians are SO glad the Americans are the most powerful country on earth. Canada feels protected by the USA. I'd bet an arm we wouldn't be so "peaceful" if we didn't have the most powerful army/economy in the world a few hours drive away.

We're not that different from the US of A, the music is pretty much the same, people love hockey and Canadian Football (which is not THAT bad, but it's not nearly as great as the NFL, even if it fines every player for every possible reason) instead of baseball and basketball. The American Way of Life has pretty much impregnated Canada as a whole.

And by the way, Poutine is exquisite. And it's from Quebec.

Besides harper trying to fly the country into the groud with his 60 billion dollar deficit, and a few other grivences I think Canada is a pretty good place.

Sounds like someone is a closet American. I am NOT so glad that Americans are arguably the most powerful nation on Earth. Don't generalize. I am proud to be Canadian in the way that I couldn't see myself living anywhere else and being as happy as I am.

1.Our culture is a combination of other cultures. 2.Its good we don't have an accent, people can't make fun of us (even though they do, but its not like "ha those americans sound so stupid" kind of thing). 3.We have the largest military power in the world, the States. 4. Everyone gets ripped off for internet and phone and stuff. 5.You don't have to be proud, just be happy. Stop thinking that pride is about nationality....(love that song).
