"Sport is an activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively." - Wiktionary

So yes it is a sport, just not a conventional one.

Try going as fast as you can in a vehicle on the edge of spinning out with temperatures over 100 degrees in the cockpit for 3 hours straight without a bathroom break. If everyone can do that without breaking a sweat, I'll rest my case.

"Sport is an activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively. Used by itself, sports commonly refer to activities where the physical capabilities of the competitor are the sole or primary determiner of the outcome (winning or losing), but the term is also used to include activities such as mind sports and motor sports where mental acuity or equipment quality are major factors." Going by that, its definitely a sport.

By definition, it most certainly is a sport, but I see it more as a waste of gas and a cause of pollution.

Yes it is just look at F1 the drivers are extremely fit they are in a cockpit for about an hour and a half which can reach temperatures of upto 100 degrees and they will regurley lose about 2-3kg of weight just from sweating and just look at the sort of g-forces they go through everytime they accelerate(1.4g),brake(4-6g) or corner(upto 6g) thats some extreme forces going on and would make most athletes playing conventional sports like basketball, football, football(soccer) and so on very tired after just a few laps nevermind over 70 laps.

You try it, and see how tiring it can be. Then you can say if it is a sport or not.

Racing is exausting, it's not easy, and is also in the top three most dangerous SPORTS. They sweat out a half gallon a race. It is a sport. Even though they sit while doing it. Some are considering gaming a sport. Now that's crap.

I would like to add (as I have before) that NASCAR is not exclusively a sport of going in circles. Some tracks are road tracks. Saying that NASCAR is going in circles as an argument against it is ignorant of how the sport is played. The pits are an essential part of NASCAR as well. It's much more complicated than most people realize. It involves a team of people making chess-like risks as well as an amount of stamina that is given too little regard.

Only if you're willing to say it requires "mental acuity." But then you'd be lying.

Absolutely. You've got to be at the top of your game to stand a chance. There are few greater mental challenges than a high stakes poker tournament, and many people who have played in live high stakes tournaments will tell you that it requires quite a bit of physical endurance to be able to stand a chance.

So police chases are a sport? There should be a rule, if your sitting down (auto racing) it's not a sport. And if the fans have to be quiet (golf) it's not a sport.

Lol, who said a police chase is race? Look at the definition of race. You have to be actually trying to get somewhere. Not just getting far enough away and then hide.

English Football answer: At least a footballer is not a part of the immediate action every second.

American Football answer: At least a player has breaks after every play and usually a long break while the other half of the team is on the field.

Basically what I'm saying is a driver/rider is a part of the action every moment during their stint. There are some endurance races where they are multiple drivers in one car, but NASCAR and F1 only uses one driver. They must work for the "entire game" so to speak.

Not a lot, but denying that anything is less of a sport because something is harder than the other makes little difference as far as determining a sport's worthiness of being considered a sport.
